Is that a Jaguar unit? I can tell it is not a Cobra rear-end. The brakes look a bit small, what is their diameter?

Marshall,

I like what you have done to the car. That intake is beautiful, the IRS looks well done. My only question is, what is with the use of all the bright primary colors?

I will measure the disc diameter and post tomorrow, there is no particular point in the multitude of colours under the car, the parts have to be painted and I find making everything one colour looks drab. It will all get dirty under there anyway as the car has been built to show standards but will be driven and enjoyed regularly.

Will post more pics of different features over the next few weeks.

I wish you'd give some info on what all you had to do to get that under there.

here is a pic of the work done to accomodate the Jaguar IRS.........the extra subframes were probably not necessary but it was convenient to stiffen the convertable up while it was upside down. View attachment 517897

Did you have to modify the IRS itself?

Only in a minor way, I cut about 4" off each side if the cradle which the springs mount to as does the diff centre section. cutting the pieces off allowed the cradle to fit between the Mustang subframes where the origional differential was. The pieces cut off did not interfere with any of the geometry so it works as the jaguar engineers planned.

The ride in my car is exceptional, like todays vehicles.

Are gears and differentials readily available for it? Is it hte standard 8,8 stuff or?

What kind of wheels do you use? Newer backspacing, original backspacing, or something altogether different?

Jaguar diffs come in a range of ratios depending on the model, they are not (to my knowledge) interchangeable with other manufacturers gears.

As the jag is 4" wider than the origional backspacing is 2" more on each wheel, this means the wheel centre is right on the outside of the wheel, just like on modern cars. Some might not like that but to me it helps make the Mustang look modern.

One other advantage is by removing the leaf springs there is no restriction to filling the whole wheel well with tyre, at least 10" wide I think, maybe more.

hey, go easy on UK engineering

given the news of MG/Rover going belly up, I think we should all have a moment of respect for UK automaking. And I would still love an Aston Martin Vanquish.
