After fixing the timing cover, new HB, new hoses, t-stat, coolant, etc, the car starts up and runs great... for a little while. Today it started giving me problems. I was driving down the street in my neighborhood, and it died all of a sudden (kind of like what happens when the ground wire is faulty-but mine isn't)! When I was trying to turn the motor over, it sounds like it's not getting ANY fuel. All wiring is connected, everything is in place, except for this annoying setback. What should I do???

A few guys in here have had the MAF not be secured and had a similar issue (I think Guero experienced this, for one). Just in case that's a possibility............

I'd check fuses real quick (there's a FP fuse under the hood).

Then toss the FP gauge on and see what's up.

A noid light can check for injector pulsing (an LED test light would probably suffice).

Do ensure you have spark as well.

If ya can narrow it down a little, we can help more.
Good luck.

Aha, I don't have spark!!! Fuel pressure is steady at 38psi.

Fixored yet?

If no injector pulsing and no spark, think PIP (Profile Ignition Pick-up. The two-piece sensor in the distributor).

If injectors are pulsing but no spark, think TFI (Thick Film ignition. The ignition module on the passenger fender) or coil (or primary ignition wiring). Sometimes you can get yourself a KOEO IDM (Key-on Engine Off, Ignition Diagnostics Monitor. The IDM notes if the spark advance is where it should be. Kind of a system checker) or TFI code for this one. A test light across the coil terminals should make your test light flash like a pulsar (even while cranking only). The coil gets key-on constant 12 volts, and the ground pulse comes via the TFI/puter/PIP/etc going backwards (the computer controls the ground pathway, in other words).

Good luck.

Injectors are pulsing, yet no spark.

I'm a little behind the times on these acronyms. Could you explain? Thanks for your help JT, as always..

I edited the post with more than the horribly spartan info I normally post.

If you have injector pulsing, you know the PIP is good. Check across the coil terimnals (see if it lights up your testing light while cranking). This will tell ya if the issue is before the coil.

If the test light flashes, put your inductive timing light on the coil wire and see if it will make the timing light pulse. Go from there.........

Good luck bud.

Update: this is really annoying.... I'm going to buy a new ICM to see if it will fix it.
