Anyone ever disconnected this, if so is there any issues with it....tore the inside of the car apart tracking down a short and pulled the column to check the flash to pass.....all leads to anti theft........thinking about just disconnecting......any comments or experience with..
Thanks

let me guess your car won't crank?

once at work mine won't crank, and everyone that checked it out said my starter had went. so i changed it out in th eparking lot and still the same. lucky for me i had went to a school that teaches how to install car alarm and audio systems. so i took a look at the alarm brain. sure enough the asshat that installed it put the brain right behind the clutch pedal. and it ended up bending and breaking the right when the harness connects to the brain.

so i searched for the kill switch relay and just bypassed it. give me a bit and i'll find a pic of a relay. all you have to do is move one wire to another terminal and as long as the alarm is not functioning the kill switch will be off. easier than ripping stuff out and trying to reconnect them, since your out of state.

Dp,
thanks for trying.....I am back home.......the car would start....I drove up to a friends house in MI, and was trying to search out a 12 amp draw that I've had for 3 years...well before the engine upgrade...lol.....we traced it to the 50 amp fuse that goes to the iside FB...then to fuse 8 and 16.....when those pulled the draw would go...we checked the radio, "flash to pass"(pulled the steering column down)checked the rear defrost, glove box light, a/c switch, etc all that was listed on the two fuse circuits.....it leads the the anti theft..............I gave up after 3 hours of pulling my interior and etc apart.........may have to pay a professional to search this one out......

What's up JT..?
No, I didn't blow it....I'm pulling 12 amps on the DMM.....
It drops to 0.06 after pulling the 50.....when I plug it in and go under the dash and pull #8 and #16 it drops again.....we pulled everything that was listed on the fuse diagram..and the only thing left is the anti theft...pulled it out and she wouldn't start so I don't want to fab that thing...

Will, there is quite a bit of variance in the different models and the wiring for each. Post if you have a vert or coupe (I cant keep your cars straight and don't wanna kick it).

In general, if you need to yank both 16 and 8 to diminish the draw, I like your hypothesis about the alarm brain being bad. One other test when you are bored is to disconnect the headlight switch connector and recheck the draw. If the draw is gone with the headlight connector unplugged but the alarm plugged in (and all fuses in place), the issue might be the lighting circuit (which transfers to the keyless since it flashes the lights).

Anyhow, on the brain if you want to try and jump the starter circuit: I'm not sure exactly which set-up you have (with a remote, vert or not, etc) but this might be enough........

On the alarm, pin 12 should be white/pink. If you turn the key to crank, this should show 12 volts. Then Pin 24 should be red/lt blue and should be the continuation of the crank wire. You could remove the starter relay in your underhood fusebox and do a continuity test on this wire to be sure. It should see 12 volts while cranking if the brain is plugged in (and nothing I would surmise if the brain is unplugged. Hence no cranking)

If this is so, you should be able to jump those pins and have the car crank. Then leave the rest of the brain disconnected and see (in a safe environment) if the car runs ok and without further issue. I dont have a factory alarm so I can't do any testing on my end of things for you.

JT...no I don't have the vert anymore...two coupes now......The Opal is the one question......We did pull the light switch......not fun..could be worse and the draw dropped a little.......but not enough to be the issue....either 1 or 2 amps..........HAD to scratch my tilt arm.....that thing was welded on........I'll re-read your post and try the pins when I get the time.....took a day off from work yesterday to hound this issue........not a lot of time to tinker anymore....
