My sisters civic was broken into and they attempted to steal it a couple nights ago, they broke the colum and the steering lock etc but never took the car, something must have scared them away or for whatever reason they just didnt finish the job.

Anyways, obviously Im worried about my car as well now, (civic was bone stock, My coupe has a few mods, most obviously being the wheels/tires that might attract theives) Im not sure why they went for the civic but maybe they realized their mistake.

Anyways my car has an alarm, and it was working perfectly fine until today. I went to the car this morning eveything seemed fine, alarm was activated still, I deactivate it and drive away. When I parked it next I realize the alarm wouldnt reactivate, wont lock the doors remotely or anything anymore, the LED no longer works at all, no flahsing, no solid light or anything. Its as if the alarm isnt even there anymore. What should I look for to track down this problem, it seems coincidental that this happened right after my sisters car was almost stolen, Im wondering if its being tampered with.

Sorry for the long story, but if you know anything about alarms that might help I would appreciate it.

Start by checking power to the alarm unit itself. If power is there and nothing's happening then start checking alarm contacts. Try finding and downloading the instruction manual for your particular alarm if you don't have one. They often include a wiring diagram. The unit itself may require replacing but you'll have to determine that by troubleshooting wires.

Dagger, I'll look into that thanks. The battery remote was replaced a month ago. If it was the battery remote the alarm would still work fine I would just have to set it off eveytime I get into my car. Im more concerned that something has been tampered with because the timming seems too co-incidental.

Found the online manual, no diagrams for the wireing and no troubleshooting section either.

Bah... that sux. Try calling the manufacturer. While you're waiting you can still do a little troubleshooting. Checking for power at the alrm unit etc.

if you have a spare transmitter, try it. sometimes one can accidentally have the buttons pressed all day long in the pocket and drain or break the transmitter.

then check for basic power at the alarm wiring harness. are any of your lights broken (license plate lights included)?

good luck.

Find the brain of the alarm and follow the power wire. The fuse might be blown.
