There are supposed to be four of them (although this MustangSource.com article says 6 and they more likely correct than I), all different colors, all made for specific friends of Shelby. I don't know where they are, but they pop up in magazines from time to time. IIRC, Shelby also made some continuation GT350 convertibles in the early 80s, but these aren't always recognized as authentic by enthusiasts.

I found a old sales ad from the 80's when Shelby was reproducing the 66 shelby GT convertibles.................the MSRP was.....................$15,999!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! Just think, in late 1983 you could get a new '84 model SVO with the $500 Canyon Red color option.....and have about $500 left over.


IO have heard that there are literally a handful of GT350 convertibles, but I have never seen one. Then again, I've never seen a '93 Cobra R either, and there were more of those produced. Actually, I've never even seen a '93 Cobra.

GT350 convertible in book

I bought a Shelby book at Borders recently. Pages 80-82 have 10 color pix of Shelby's personal GT350 convertible along with some relevant info. Not a lot, but hadn't seen anything about it before.

I think this is the same book online, but I stopped in at Borders when I was out of town and found it on the shelf. Brand new only 12.99 at the store, great book IMO.

There are at least 2 for sure. I don't recall 4 from my readings but I may be wrong. They were Shelby's personal cars... one being for his wife.

The book I referenced above says there were 6 GT350 convertibles built in '66, not intended for sale to the public, but rather as gifts to select Shelby employees (including Carroll). Carroll Shelby is listed in the Acknowledgments section so this seems like good info IMO.

Other than the continuation models I only know of his personal car and the one he built for his secretary.

It's red

The book's a great deal. I have another in the series (Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth) and it's great too.

The car's red but I can't see a clean shot of the shifter in the photos (but it does have a tach so probably a stick)... It's described as the third of six built with serial number 6S2377. Frankly if I owned a convertible and was restoring it, I'd make it into one of these...

I saw one of the 80's reproductions yesterday at the Shelby production facility next to the Speedway in Las Vegas. It is dark blue w/ white stripes and a white top - owned by Carroll. BTW, the tour is at 10:30am M-F and free. The best part is really the 20 or so cars in the lobby. The first Cobra, and other drool inducing Shelbys are worth the 15 min cab ride from downtown. The Terlingua team cars ('68 and '06) are also cool.
