I was actually looking into getting one of these R/Ts...maybe even the SRT8. Just wanted to know opinions and if anyone has any "run-in" stories from street regarding these!

As much as I HATE mopar products, the charger/magnum/300/and soon challenger hit me a few diff. ways.

1. they seem to be MUCH closer to a benz than any mopar in the past. I am holding off on my lumping them in with the other mopar offerings in terms of general crappy build quality/toughness.

2. they look bad ass and the SRT stuff has some balls.

If you looking for a good size hauler with some azz they are very well rounded IMHO. Esp. since from what I have seen you post your getting away from the mustang, sad to see you go since your an oldie mainstay member but I also understand if health/ability to do simple things is painfull.

I would look at the SRT models in this order if I could afford one

300-local guy bought an srt model and it is VERY NICE.

charger

magnum (does have more hauling ability so if that is a big plus move it up front, is there an SRT model of this car?)

the challenger would be placed in front of the 300 when it comes out.

My uncle had a charger r/t... I didn't like it. Cornering in it felt like trying to kick a whale back into the ocean after it beached itself.

It was surprisingly quick in a straight line, it was chipped, had flows, and a K and N air kit. It did sound the balls, I have to admit. He ended up trading it back in for a 1996 Corvette with the LT4 (grand sport or something like that).

He ran consistent low 14s with it at Epping New Hampshire. I think he was pissed that his brandy new (in '05) Charger got stomped by my 10 year old stang. I think it would be a cool car for someone to haul a family in BUT... it's a pig on gas, even with the cylinder shut off thingamajiggie. You definately won't have a problem passing on the highway, even with the whole family in the car. Roomy in the back, too.

my "run ins" were at the track. i ran a charger 3 times. he ran 13.2 @ 106 every time. the srt 8 jeep cherokes run high 13's. i have seen a few of them running that these past few weeks. i took a quick look at the interior of the charger and it was pretty nice. can not comment on the r/t model. definetly go for the srt 8 if anything.

i say a chager the other day all black not sure if it was a rt or a srt but it had huge chrome factory wheels all black it was so sexy i wanted to trade both of my stangs in and it sounded like a million dollars

You know..this is what I LIKE about Mustang Guys....they are not afraid/ashamed to compliment another car if it deserves it. If I were a long time member of a ricer forum and posted this....I would get ragged on big-time.

Our local dealer had a SuperBee with 4k miles for $40k...Sounded tempting, but I do NOT want to rush this....I have had my stang for too long to do anything in haste.

I have enough $$ socked away to put about 1/3 down on the price of a $40k car. The "base" SRT model (solid color) has a sticker of about $42k, and could be haggled down to under 40. THe Cobras are getting $60k down here now...ON A WAITING LIST....

In my case, I like the AUTO with the roomy inside. The SRT has 4-piston Brembro's and upgraded suspention, and sits a tad lower than the R/T. I only put about 8-9K miles a year on my car on average, so Im not THAT concerned with gas.

I understand that there is a S/C available as a direct bolt-on, just in case I have the car a few year and get "itchy" again.

The huge factory wheels is either the R/T daytona (orange, yellow, or lime green on black) or the SRT 8

i rode in a charger SRT8, OMG for a boat that beast MOVES, and STOPS. It's got massive brakes. i think he ran 13.2's - 13.4's at the track
his boss had a bone stock 300c srt8
i swear it ran a 12.9 bone stock, and many 13.0 flats
dunno why the 300c is faster than the charger.
if you get a mopar get the srt8 or at least wait on the challenger

Yeah it's true - my boss's 300c went 12.9 - his first trip to the track - 100% stock.

Coworkers Charger went 13.5-ish - also his first trip, also 100% stock.

These cars are fast. The rape from a roll as well.

I'm a fan.

I gotta say I really like the way the srt cars look. They just look so freakin hardcore. That being said, before I had put my car away for the winter, I had a run in with an srt-8 charger. I was drivin along minding my own business on my way to work, and this silver srt-8 charger comes flying up on me. He gets beside me and starts speeding up and slowing down. The guy is almost as old as my dad and all I could think was are you serious. So we were both slowing down for a red light, i dropped it into second coasting around 35, well the light went green and he took off first and I realized what was happening and dumped it. I started to reel him in around 80 and by the time i hit 100 I was just starting to edge by him. Well needless to say he was not to happy about that, and after we slowed down he flew by me, I gave him a thumbs up and he gave me a really dirty look.

That being said I would love one of those cars for a daily driver, but I could never afford 44k for one, not to mention the gas that would be needed for it...

i just checked the website it was a srt-8 i havent seen the daytona r/t's they look nice though

SRT 8

Super Bee...SRT8 with DAYTONA Package:

DAYTONA:





Big Difference cosmetically...The "snout" on the hood (ram air)


The Daytona is 10 more ponies than the base R/T and has the cosmetics...I would spend the extra money on the SRT 8 because of the speed and the Brembros!!

The Daytona has the 20" rims, like the SRT but does NOT have the suspension and the brakes that the SRT has.

Damn I didn't know these cars were that fast for there size. I like the SRT8 looks really good with an agressive front end facia(sp?), I don't like the backend family sadan look they have. Over all they seem like good cars.

From what i/ve seen at the track the 300 SRT-8 always gets better numbers than the rest of the srt's. I've seen 3 hit low 13's bone stock i even think high 12's(may not have been stock) . Ive yet to see a bone stock srt-8 charger hit better times.

ONe thing to remember with these. If you get one (meaning me, in my case) Im "comfortable" with the bone stock numbers for what the car provides for my needs....This is not the "general" needs of my buddies on this forum...

However, If I (you) did get one to keep bone stock for awhile, and you started getting "itchy" for more, Paxton Novi has a direct bolt on for the 300 AND the Chargers, for the 5.7l AND the 6.1L

I worked at Dodge/Jeep dealer in '05 when the Magnums and 300c's came out. I havent had the chance to drive an SRT vehicle except the baby neon, but the stock 345hp Magnum was pretty impressive for a big car. It chirped the tires punching it from a 25mph roll, and thats with an automatic. They are really close to 50/50 weight distribution which made it handle surprising well. I can only bet the SRT8 is just short of thrill ride in family car package.

Talked With Roger Sat, and he is thus far doing a pretty good job of talking me out of getting rid of the car. If he and Joe are able to help with the swap (and they have already done 2) and my back is ok in a few months, I will most likely lean that way..

Back pain = . I had a dirtbike accident when I was 20 that compound fractured 3 vertabra (crushing breaks) right between my shoulders. I was VERY lucky not to be paralized but the pain is always there and one reason I do alittle bit at a time and tend to walk away from it for a few months at a time. I push myself kinda hard on some stuff and I pay for the next few days or weeks so I feel your pain.

If you have help its not too bad...but I would also say wait and see how thing heal up before you throw in the towel and get rid of a car you put so much into.

Also who is to say if you already have the money saved up you could not have the mustang and DD a DAMN nice family truckster in one of the SRT models. I doubt that a shortblock (IIRC that is your issue) will cost 13k for what your combo is, working on your 1/3 socked away for a 40k car. Unless your thinking of building a stroker dart based forged shortblock of course.
