anyone here play much? What are you playing now? The question i really want answered is who do you think is the best guitarist ever? My buddy says eric clapton and i gotta him some credit...

I play from time to time, still learning. I'm playing a ESP LTD MH-50. Eric Clapton is a great guitar player, I think most people who are familiar with more guitar players than what we just hear on the radio would say that Yngwie Malmsteen is the best living guitar player.

I used to, lots of metal. Influences were Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, Tony Iommi...see a trend here? ;) My writing style was always likened to a mix of 80s Metallica and Slayer, as far as my band went. I was vocals/lead guitar.

Haven't played in years though but I can still rip it up pretty well. Definitely lost my licks and dexterity though.

Best ever? Oh man, here we go. Everyone will come in here and argue for days now - good going :rlaugh:

*My* personal favorites, as they are my influences, are Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, Tony Iommi, Alexi Laiho and Oli Herbert (of All That Remains; grew up with him and he was always the man on the local scene). Gotta give props to the blues players of course, and some classic rock guys as well. I love all (good) guitar work.

I'd say Micheal Angelo Battio is more impressive, if not for only playing 2 or 4 guitar necks at the same time - Otherwise I can't tell the diff

Yo! :D

Been fartin' 'round with my cheapie Gibson Epoch for a little over a year, now. I still suck, but I'm verrrrrry slowly improving. I'm still kinda hung up on power chords. I guess I could make a lame rhythm guitar guy in a garage band, at this point. :) My goal before the end of the year is to be able to play the intro theme to Metalocalypse ... but I still need an effects pedal (for detune and wah) to do the quick squeaky zips on it and such, and I'm still not great on alternate-picking.

I have the makers of Guitar Hero I and II to thank for saving me from giving up on practicing - helped build my finger strength/speed in my left hand and gave me a little more confidence. My ex got it for me for Xmas last year, and I drove her nuts with the clicky button sounds all night long for months, afterwards. I've beaten GH1 on Expert and I'm allllllllmost through Expert on GH2 ... because, yes, I have no life. :D

As for "greatest guitar player ever" ... that's a trick question. There's a "best" for every genre of guitar. Speed metal? Dave Mustaine. Thrash metal? Dimebag Darrell. Rock blues? Stevie Ray Vaughn. Mississippi Delta blues? BB King. Hippie rock? Jimi Hendrix. etc. etc. etc. ... but why is it that almost all of the good ones are dead, now? (Excluding the great Mr. Mustaine ... although years of drugs have surely taken their toll.)

Well I play metal But I think SRV may be the best ever. Im currently playing a Prs Custom22 but my favorite guitar is my Epiphone les Paul.. For Tabs
www.ultimate-guitar.com

That's the site to check out for tabs. They've got everything! I play a lot more acoustic stuff than anything as well. I'm on a Takamine hollow body acoustic electric. I'm a younger guy, so the good guitar players I'm gonna throw out there may not be as familiar to some of you guys. How about John Mayer (blues), Keith Urban (country), Jack Johnson (light rock)? Jack Johnson mostly plays chords, but I can't keep up with him! I think he makes up his own chords or something.

They're a pretty good site that I use for tabs - anything with tabs for non-mainstream stuff like Nightwish, Manowar, and Type O Negative is cool in my eyes - but there's a few more I've got bookmarked that I just can't remember off hand - I don't have the links saved here on my work computer.

Acoustic is harrrrrrrd. I like cranking the distortion because it helps mask my total lack of playing skill. :D

I have been playing for about 7 years now. I started playing when I was 20 but I wish I would have started alot earlier. As far as best guitarist, that is very debateable, but my favorite is Jimi Hendrix with SRV a close second. I aslo love Jack Johnson and play alot of his stuff on acoustic. It's great to just chill out and play some Jack Johnson.

I love blues and rock, but I've been playing mostly blues lately becuase of the Cobra(if anyone has been reading my post , they know what I mean). But I'm gonna keep on jammin and turning wrenches. another tab site that is good is www.911tabs.com.

If you like Jack Johnson, G-love and Donovan, here is a good site-very useful.

I just got a red shecter gryphon and its nice. It doesn't have a bridge so no wammy:mad:, but for a gift its sweet. I think EVH is one of the best, but also wylde, abbott, hammett, hetfield, page. The guitar one and world magazines were really helpful for me. Ultimateguitar.com is cool but not always accurate:shrug:

I've been playing for nearly 15 years (though you wouldn't know it lol). I play an ESP KH-2, an Ibanez RG2620, and a Fender Strat.

Who is the best? It is subjective to your tastes. There are a lot of killer guitarists out there. The guys that really impress me are the no names you can find on youtube playing their asses off.

Ive been playing guitar for about 5 years now and i own a Schecter Omen 6 and a strat that i painted and built. I also have a Line 6 Spider II 2x12" 150w amp that i just gigged with for the first time in the same theatre that i saw the Fray and Guster at, and my setup sounded awesome live. Heres a pic:

As for the best guitarist, its hard to pick one best, so I'll pick 3: Eric Clapton, Yngwie Malmsteen, and this might be a wierd choice and it might be a personal opinion, but i think John Mayer is an amazing guitarist. Sure theres probably other better guitarists, but hes arguably one of the better guitarists out today. Whenever i listen to his John Mayer Trio songs and he starts goin nuts, it makes me wanna play guitar for hours.
