That front timing cover still has me confused. Does anyone know what the firing order was for the 289 hi-po. Maybe I had just better find the #'s on the block!!!!! Dark knight, the engine looks to small for a 351 I think. Maybe not?
All 289's used the 15426378 firing order, Hi-po's included. Timing covers are interchangeable between the 289-302-351W's. The engine pics you posted is definately a 289 or a 302, like the others said, it doesn't really matter which it is, but based on the acessory drive setup, my money is also on a 70-78 302.
O.K. I'm learning more everyday. The engine is running autolite 45's. Does anyone know what gap I should set the new one's? Thanks again.....
Edit: P.S. now knowing that it's a 13/16" spark plug???? Does this narrow down what year heads this might be??? Also, like I said the dizzy is set up for a 302 H.O. engine, and it ran fine. Just wanted to do a complete tune-up.
If you've got electronic ignition, gap em at around .045. With points, at .035. Firing order should be 15426378, unless someone swapped in a different cam with the 13726548 order. The last year for the 13/16" plugs was 1977
I'm not totaly shur of this, but ran into this before one external difference between 289 & 302 are the timming marks. 289 has a mark on the dampener the degree marks are on the cover the 302 has the degee marks on the dampener and a metal pointer on the cover. my 67 had the dampener from a 289 and a cover from a 302. whent to set the timming had two pointers and no degee marks.
