Any ideas for putting a fuel cell in a hatchback?

Legally (NHRA) your probally going to need to run some kind of firewall. I am not sure though. I have scene the rear floorboard where the spare goes cut out and a custom one made and the fuel cell, battery and in one case the nitrous bottle was mounted recessed in the new floorboard.

yeah thats what i did, we cut the spare tire area out, made brackets to hold the cell from underneath and mounted it so its flush with the hatch floor, then just siloconed it to seal it all up. Dont forget to make another hole somewhere in the hatch to vent the fumes

From a center of gravity perspective and from a safety perspective I wouldn't put it IN the hatchback area; I'd put it underneath the car in the stock tank location. Full, that cell weighs in the 120-130 lb. range. You want to carry that weight as low in the chassis as possible. That approach also eliminates the need for the firewall since it's not in the interior of the car.
