Just curious, there is a guy selling the plaque from an xp8 on ebay, it is enscribed, i was just wondering if that was meant to stay with the vehicle, wrecked or not.

I don't think there would be any legal issues Joe. You will burn in hell for taking it though.:D

I'm only joking. Seriously, Saleen just spent $700,000 to pay off that EPA fine. They are cleaning house again and closing Fairbanks. Do you really think they will come after a lone guy taking an engine bay plaque from a car?

Way back in the day before most of the fellows around here knew what a Saleen Mustang was I bought some ARE's from Saleen at one of the Long Beach sidewalk sales. Under one of the wheels in the box was a bag of around 50 engine bay plaques. Needless to say, I handed them back to Stan and said, hey man get with it. That was a long time ago.

We see them come up on Ebay every once and a while. If I was still a crusader, I would be bidding on them just to take them off the street. Those days have passed though. I do have a few engine bay plaques from a few foxbody cars that have been totalled. I drilled them out of the car and took them so no one else could and build something to sell and pass off. There is a difference with making a clone for personal and financial reasons and making a clone to try to sell to some unsuspecting soul.

If you are asking if it should stay with the XP8 or not. I would have to know if it's a total loss. If it can be repaired I say try to save a very rare vehicle. If it's a total loss someone who shouldn't may try to use it for fraudulent reasons.

According to all the xp8 parts on ebay (somehow from 3 different sellers), it's been rolled.
That would make 2 i know of that are history, and a couple others that are borderline toast.
As far as legal, i probably shouldn't of used that word, i had just thought that ebay takes down the plaques
On explorerx, we keep pretty good track of the xp8, most have come through the site one way or another.

I really don't nderstand why anyone would want it considering it has the cross referenced Ford serial (vin) number emgraved on it also.....unless he is selling the Ford vin tag along with the Saleen ID plate.

When I was in the auto auction business the state took possession of a Explorer that had a driver door replaced and the sticker with the vin didn't match the windshield vin tag. The same thing might happen if someone attached the Saleen ID plate with the wrong Ford vin, if the state where the vehicle is registered called Saleen and the windshield vin didn't match their records that would present another problem.
