Seems every muffler i've heard for these cars are either TOO loud or crackle and backfire, what's the deal?? I have Ford Racing X and looking for the stock tone but a little bit louder when I accelerate. Any ideas??

I have the Bassani Race Axle Backs. They sound absolutely amazing with the Off-road H pipe.

I'll let you know in about a week how they sound with long tubes and an off-road x pipe though

Maybe the Ford factory Bullitt mufflers?

They are supposed to have a tone similar to the movie car.

The JBA's that I have didn't make my car any louder then stock, just a different tone. They don't crackle, you would probably like them. I actually might be interested in selling them if you're interested, I want something louder on my car. PM me if you want.

Your describing how chambered mufflers sound on these cars and I agree with you. I had the MAC a/b with the prochamber and took it off because of the tinny sound at WOT.

IMO straight through mufflers sound the best on the s197 while chambered sounds the best on the fox/sn95.

I would say get stingers but it won't have the stock sound your wanting at all.

I think your problem could be more due to the midpipe. Try the OR H Pipe. Flows, SLP all sound great with the OR H Pipe. Depends on your opinion of TOO loud.

I agree 100%. Every chambered combo I have listened to with the S197s doesn’t sound good at all (no offense to you guys that are running them). To me the only option for the s197s would be a strait thru.

Be weary of the Borla/FRPP stingers. They tend to trumpet and you would need to weld in a resonator to get rid of it. They sound good, but it's a little more work.

That's because the Fox/SN95s had those long tailpipes to funnel the sound out properly, the thing that gets close with the S197 is the straight through design (stinger) because it imitates the sound that those long tailpipes make.

My Steedas sound like stock only deeper, and meaner but without so much bass that you lose the crispness of the exhaust note.

The new bullit muffler sound awesome, they were going for that ford big block sound of the original and hit it pretty darn close. Not too lound but a deep tone and rumble.

The stock exhaust is pretty noticeable - it's definitely not the typical "OEM quiet" exhaust system.

However, I've heard the Bassani Axlebacks and they give the car an old school muscle car sound. My Pypes Violators are quite rowdy. Startups in the garage will shake the ground and the garage, and they will occasionally make a backfire sound in the right conditions.

Trust me, that setup is pure sex. It is quite possibly one of the best sounding exhaust setups out there. Most straight through mufflers with an off-road X pipe sound pretty good, actually.

Weary = Physically or mentally exhausted by hard work, exertion, strain, etc.; fatigued; tired: weary eyes; a weary brain.

Leery = wary; suspicious (usually fol. by of): I'm leery of his financial advice.
