as title says. the midwest forum seems to be dead, and the local board (stlmustangs) wont let me post even though i just (finally) registered there. thinking about getting the stangs motor rebuilt, trying to find someplace that does quality work who wont mind doing a basically stock rebuild.

hello from a fellow stl stangbanger.

The only non-mustang-specific one i know of is phase 2 machining on watson a little east of lindbergh (probably called kirkwood road there, but its lindbergh). Its in the basement of the carquest autoparts. The guy is a bit of a hillbilly and he wanted $285 to do a basic valvejob and head cleanup on my GT40Ps =0

Then theres always mustang muscle. When we went to get my brothers 97 lincoln mk viii dyno'd, they didnt happen to notice that the parking brake was on and they lit his back brakes on fire. it put down 110 rwhp though! They did fine with my fox though since theyre more familiar with mustangs. Make sure to set up an appointment though because theyre a little sketchy. Theyre in fenton BUFU on gravois and are really hard to find if its your first time.

mustang muscle i've heard of, but fenton/hilsboro is a helluva distance for me (im in o'fallon).

i was able to search stlmustangs and heard quite a few good things about phase 2, but dont know if theyre more of a race shop or all-around builder? anything decent in either the ofallon or west county areas?

Isn't TMoss by you guys? Notorious intake porting on stock intakes, try them?

AFAIK, Tom Moss does the porting in his garage, not at some big company. I just picked up an exploder intake from him in december and i saw his stang and his garage. He is just a man, and a cool one at that! He's in the ballwin area, still a big drive from ofallon.

K, I wasn't sure, I knew he was down round that area, and he does great work- thats where my lower is going this spring, and he seems to know his stuff- not to mention his rep! Sorta figured there was a shop involved!Love to see his Mustang, you didn't snap any pics, didya?

quick bump

still cant get stlmustangs to let my post there (after several people around town asking me to join in over there ). you know/heard anything about allied (now bessel)? theyre alot closer than that phase2 to me. ive also heard of amt?

and what should i be looking for cost wise on a stock (.030 over) rebuild? just so i know im not getting screwed?

Is ofallon on the Illinois side or MO? Also what about AFM their by springfield but dont know the distance. Now that I think about it maybe the're too far...

so i made a few calls to see what my options are, so far looks like 2500-3k for a back to stock rebuild. call me crazy, but that sounds steep for a stock rebuild, yes?

so im going through my options:
1) stock shop rebuild as above, $2500-$3000 for a stock motor
2) farm the machine work, but build it myself and add the trickflow kit (which means finding a stand to work with)
3) mail-order shortblock with tfs kit (was looking at fordstrokers.com, seems decent prices, but ?)

any other options/opinions? i am trying to keep this on a budget without cutting corners, so im not looking for a high-end race motor here, just something reliable that will still be sporty.
