Any opinions on clutch to handle 500WHP?

I don't want a clutch that is like a truck. Takes all the fun of driving right out the window. Thanks. :SNSign:

BTW I think there was something called a spec stage II I ws looking at but is it a pain to use? Hehe between a rough clutch and dog rings, I have seen people end up hating their cars overnight.

I used a spec stage 3+ for a couple of years. I didn't have any complaints about it on the street.

It wasn't difficult to push in in traffic and stuff? Gforce recommends no more than a spec II BTW.

I run the Spec Stage 3+ right now too. I've had it for a little over a year, and I don't have anything bad to say about it. I drive the car pretty much every day in the summer.
I am know the clutch is harder to push in than a stock clutch, but I am not too sure how much. I went from an automatic to a manual with this clutch, so I have no reference.
It seems to have pretty good street manners though. I don't have any chatter or undesirable side effects from running it.

I don't live in a place with lots of traffic, but normal day to day driving it's always worked well.

I went with a custom clutch from Pro Motion and I love it. The SPEC stage 2 is great, but I wouldn't recommend it with 500+HP. Unless you're running a weak trans, then the stage 2 might keep you from breaking something.

I have the Spec Stg. II on my car now. I am happy with it, it's definitely more on/off than the stock clutch, but not too bad.

I had a Center Force Dual-Friction in my 89 and was very happy with it. It drove very smooth, easy engagement, absolutely not chatter, and is built to hold a decent amount of power.

I've never had the Spec III, but would imagine they could be kinda brutal for everyday driving, plus they are definitely harder on tranny's if yours isn't beefed up.

If I were to buy a new clutch tomorrow though, it would be the CF Dual Friction!

I got a regular Spec Stage 3 and its pretty tricky to drive. When I let other people drive my car, the usually have problems, but I'm used to it now and I can drive around in heavy traffic no problem. I've heard the 3+ is much more street friendly though and is actually stronger than the regular Stage 3.

No I will not make 500 at the wheels. I am saying WHP not RWHP. Now...if I decide to s/c..well lookout.

I will go with gforce b/c it is a straight forward install and everything else is such a butt pain to install including all sorts of potential vibration problems, etc...that I dont feel like weeding out.

i would ask whoever is making the trans then. alot of those guys have local clutch makers that they swear by. we have one here in town that everyone raves over.

being that it is still a t5 you might want to consider something out of the ford racing catalog.

I am looking to replace my clutch in the next 6 months and I want a clutch with the lightest pedal, but with the most holding power. I wont be puching 500hp soon, but in the next few years I want to!

What do you guys think for something like that?

Oh, I too took WHP, as meaning "wheel horsepower" as in the wheels on the car, I guess it really means flywheel.

In my experience, this is exactly what the Centerforce is best at. Sure there are clutches that will hold more power, but the CF drives closest to stock and is not near as hard on your tranny, yet will still hold up very well. Just my 2 cents though.

I have a McLeod street twin in mine, and its great. It def has alot higher pedal effort than stock, but it grips nice and strong with no chatter, and it can be slipped when driving at slow speeds.

Centerforce Dual friction here, used from 300-500 FWHP, no complaints. That fugger lasted a LONG time too!

I have the Centerforce Dual Friction in mine. The pedal feel is the same as stock. When I first installed it the feel was a little springy but after about 500 miles that went away. However it does slip if I power shift when running my slicks at the track and I'm only making 433rwhp.
