Any Oregon Stangers? How bad are they with inspection?

Hey there fellow stangers. It seems that I have a cross country move in my near future to the west coast (just gotta get out of mass). The original plan would have been to move to cally but years ago, I had begun to realize reading the posts that you cant even hang a air freshener off the mirror in cally without making the car illegal. I really cant be an auto fanatic in such an environment. I also have some friends I can call on in beaverton oregon but they dont own cars.

How much are they sticklers about inspection? I have a carb on a FI vehicle so basically thats where I need to start from. I have all emissions equiptment in place and operating and the car looks 100% stock from the outside.

There is no official state inspection on cars. But, if you live in the city. you do have to pass DEQ (emissions testing). You don't have to be all stock to pass. But, you must pass. And they are strict. Either you meet the requirements, or you don't get your tags. There are areas where you do not have to pass DEQ. But, Portalnd, Hillsboro, Beaverton and surrounding areas require DEQ.

You have to pass the sniffer only. They won't open the hood, or look under the car, they just stuff sniffers up the pipes and strap it down to the dyno. And our requirements are not quite as strict as most other states (from what research I've done).

Interesting...so they dont inspect for original equiptment, CARB numbers or any of that jazz but they "sniff the tailpipe" to see whats coming out?

GOLDEN! My car pumps rosepetals out the back.

I wish they did that in MA. By not getting the plates, that means they do this test at time of ownership transfer or every other year? I'd pass either way but just curious. That state is looking better every day!

Older cars get tested once every other year, I believe. Newer cars go longer, it seems (my Cobra doesn't test until 2007, and it has had tags for a year and a half )

In Eugene there is no testing at all, we can do what we want

Looks like I'll be joining you guys then in a year or two! Oregon it is. Probably the Beaverton area.
