I need some help on reviews of astro performances a5 trans. To me it seems pretty reliable compared to the gforce g5 trans which i researched having a tendancy of 3rd gear breaking can anyone help shed some light on the a5 trans for me?

IIRC anything T5 based as in an A5 or a G-Force T5 will have an issue with 3rd gear. the case i believe allows to much flex.

i could be completly off base here since its been awhile since ive been reading up on the t5 stuff since i feel going to a C4 or TH400 will be my next route

I see i just saw on a thread on corral about the g5 but i havent read anything saying the a5 does it i guess its a different alloy steel betwern the g5 and a5 i just look at the tko's and my butt hurts just looking at the cost of them b a s t a r d s

Whats the difference between an astro a5 and an astro built t5?

Astro doesn't just do the A5, they're a manual transmission specialist shop that covers a few different transmissions, including several different varieties of T5s. At the time I bought by T5 from them, they probably offered 5 or 6 different variants of the T5, each with different levels of gear strength and ratios.

Hate to be a Debbie downer but a T5 is a T5 and always will be....

Haven't seen a gforce hold the load it is suppose to yet. Tony is a good guy at APE however.

If your planning on good power go TKO600 or T56 and don't look back

I put a TKO 600 in my car and bought everything off craigslist or corral. If you are patient, you can get some good deals. The trans came from a racer that was going auto and needed quick cash. I had to drive from south of Houston to Shreeveport, LA, but it was worth it.

TKO- $900
Bell-$100
NIB Spec stage II clutch $175
C6 slip yoke from salvage yard-$25

I imagine most people who love their T5 never made 400+ HP and drag raced, otherwise they wouldn't like them for very long.

I don't know if this was in response to my post or not, but what I was getting at above is that APW is a legit business, not that a stock gear set T5 is a particularly robust transmission. Believe me, I've killed 2 of them, I know they're frail, especially when not put together well. I'm just pleased with the T5 Astro put together for me, it's handled much more power and abuse than the first two that were in this car. I wouldn't hesitate to try an A5, after my experience with the company.

No Nik, it was not in response to your post. Before I bought a TKO I did weeks of research looking for someone who built a bullet proof T5. I thought I'd found it when I discovered G F0rce, but it only took a google search to find people mad about them breaking and G force not honoring their warranty.
The simple fact is the T5 design was not intended for high HP applications. Shaft deflection kills 3rd gear upgraded or not if you make enough power and lay it down. For auto crossing a 400 hp car it might be ok, but not with 4ooo rpm launches with slicks.

Well im open for suggestions on what to get my motor will be pushing upwards to 480 wheel hp i also wanna know i saw on tremecs site that the tko500 doesnt have a hyd. Option for clutch in the 10 spline shaft i think

Yeah i think its kinda sketchy to buy a trans used because i wkuld never know how that thing was truly used or if it even ran unless i saw it run with my own eyes but i will definitely look into liberty gears
