just bought an 89 lx notchback. Car was converted from a 4 cylinder to an 8. car runs good, no hesitation, no back firing. But car is runnung rich, strong smell of gas, slight condensation/liquid from exhaust but nothing crazy. Car idles between 1100 and 1500 up and down. any ideas?
Run codes. Maybe a TB that is dirty or an IAC that is dirty or a ECT sensor gone or bad o2 sensors. Run the codes first and see what the brain box is telling you.
Does the car have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator? Also, check to see if the diaphram on the regulator is ripped allowing fuel to go up the vaccum line.
