Any Tips?

Okay, so I got my tranny out of my car, now the problem is putting it back in. I need some creative suggestions. The tranny wont fit under the car while on the jack, and I cant put it on the jack once its slid under the car. (Stupid AOD's!!! )The car is on four jacks, and I have no lift or tranny jack.

Someone please help me.

Get the car higher If you are trying to do it yourself, you really need a cradle on your jack. Those things can really hurt you if they fall off a jack being the heavy pigs that they are.

what i did was pull it under by hand. then lift it on the jack under the car

I will get you Rick Moranis's cell number he has this gun that shrinks stuff you could shoot it and get it under there and then............................uh, nevermind!!!

Somewhere in this little write up I did it tells what I did when
faced with the same dilemma.

Basically I got a bunch of 2x4 blocks togehter and worked back and
forth from the front end to the back end adding 1 block at a time
till I got it up.

About the 3rd time I had it out in a week (don't ask) I made an
adapter for my floor jack that I could set the trans on once I got
it up high enuf.

go to www.lincolnsonline.com, look in the Tech section,
under Transmission, look for AOD R&R

(tells all the wrench sizes, socket/extension configurations,
etc that you need, too)

It doesn't weigh that much. Just do it by hand. You don't need a jack and if you do need one, you need to work out more son.

Ok dude, I'd like to see you lay under a car and 'lift' and AOD into place and bolt it in. In fact, I'll pay to fly both of us to this guys house, just so I can watch you do it.

i put a floor jack underneath it and raised it up. be careful and balance it

rent a lift or a larger jack so you can get the car up higher and use your floor jack on the tranny.

I have to agree, now if you started with it perfectly in the bench position, then maybe, but lifting one which is OFF TO YOUR SIDE up onto your chest or up in the air for you to slide under it...

Nope, sorry.

I have put T5s into place this way and it is a lot of work, now imagine a LOT more weight (T5 goes in with no Bhousing, no clutch, flywheel etc.)

Do you have any friends?

My friend and I put my C4 in the Bronco twice (don't ask) last spring.

But in the manner of safety.... you should probably get your car higher and
maybe rent a tranny jack. I have one of those adaptor kits for the floor jack
and they don't really help much more than a regular jack. Plus they sit
really high and you won't be able to slide the tranny under your car.

I would just call a buddy...

I always put my transmission on a jack and jack it up as far as possible. It gives a better angle of attack.

As these guys said, you really need an extra set of hands to do this safely. Helped put one in my buddies F-150 (obviously higher than a stang with plenty of clearance) and it was still a brutal job trying to both balance it on a jack as we lifted it in, and quick got bolts started to keep it from sliding back. It would be one thing if they were just heavy, but they are awkward because they are so darn big. Really hard to balance one on a jack, even with a few people. You may want to see if you can find someone with a tranny/motorcycle jack.

what your going to do is get a bigger jack or...

this is how i did it when we put the rebuild aod in mine.

it was on 4 jack stands as well and it wouldn't fit under either...what we did was put 2 blocks of wood under the jack and jacked up from the sub frame enough to get the tranny under the car...then like was said above was to lift the trans back in the jack...you may need a few buddies to help you out as there not light i had a few buddies helping me and it took 3 of us to get it on the jack.

best of luck just take your time and make sure you have 1 or 2 people holding the trans as you jack it up.. dont want it slipping off there.

When I did an AODE swap on my friend's 97 GT, it took 3 of us to get it into position because it's so awkward to lift while laying under the car. Call some friends, give them free beer, and convince them to help put the transmission in.

First: Do a clutch in an '83 big block K30 with a cast iron SM465 granny low 4 speed and a cast iron gear driven np205 t-case. Next: Crawl back under the stang with a buddy and realize how lucky you are, grab some cheese to go with the whine and get it done.
