my drivers side door is becoming a real bitch to open. from the inside i need to pull the door in from the armrest as i pull on the door handle. from the outside sometimes i feel like i am going to break the handle before the door actually open and sometime i will have to bump the door to finally get it to open. anybody know what the problem is? it is really embarrising having to explain the guys at the carwash how to open the door. thanks

Sounds to me the latch assembly is binding. The drop is a good thing to check out too, as stated above. Open your door and lift up on it. There should be very little slop. The bushings or pins get worn out. Try shooting Hissin50 a PM, he is doing major work on his doors right now.

The striker pin on the body that the door latches to is adjustable. You just loosen it up, move it and tighten it back. I use vise grips for this, just clamp on the end of it, do not scar up the surface where the latch contacts it.

The plastic handles on the outside do break easily. I use the corner of it on the end the rod is attached to. This way you dont stress the plastic.

Seeing as how you can afford to pay someone to wash your car, why not just take it to the body shop and tell them to fix it ASAP! :rlaugh:

actually about 6 months ago i had my weatherstripping replaced along with the top. i figured though that as time passed it would get better not worse. if that is the problem how would i go about fixing it? do you think that maybe the weatherstripping was installed incorrectly? and i meant that i have to push the door in to open it. also about 2 months ago i replaced the plastic part of the door striker with one from 5.0resto and it looks like i already need a new one.

i'll try to adjust the striker and look into the slop tommorow. but you can't beat the $6 early bird special at the car wash! thanks again
