Are you by any chance buying the car from a guy named Adam who live in Milwaukee? I probably know him if so. My dad and I also know Doug really well at Performance Plus, he's a good guy and does damn good work. He works on you car like he's working on his own, no f'ing around with him.

No heater in the '93. Heater core is not something I will do and not something I will pay to have done as it outrageous. I am buying this for a winter car so heat is kind of a bonus ya know.

Well I think I'm going to do it. The car is really nice and it's priced right. I'd still be getting below average price if I paid the $500 and got the cams welded. I talked with a ton of people and they all say the cars are very reliable once the cams are welded.

Still trying to get a free carfax though. Anybody, anybody?

Neither had I until last night. On '96 and later SHOs, which had the Yamaha V-8, They used a different design on the cams. If you can picture, the cam is a hollow tube, the lobes are put in place and then a ball which is larger than the I.D. is pulled through the cam, thus expanding it and locking the lobes and cam sproket in place. Problem is that they are interfence engines and the cam being designed that way is weak. The cam (drive) sprocket can work its way lose causing the cam to quit turning so when the pistons come up they slam into the valves in turn comletely destroying the engine. If you search SHO cam failure you will fine that there has been a class action lawsuit against Ford which they have completly ignored pizzing a lot of people off.

Cam welding. They pop the valve cover and put a few small welds on the cams so they are locked to the sprockets. Cost is $500 give or take, but once complete, the engine is actually quite reliable(it was built by Yamaha, except for the block, which Ford produced)

Okey Dokey, Now I have two Fords. The Stang an the SHO. Pretty clean car. Yes, I read all the bad stuff about them but the price was right so I figured WTF. The nice gentleman over on the SHO forum also offered to crack here open for me and see if the cams have already been welded. I'll snap a few pictures after work and post em up.
