I asked this over in the V6 forum and they're either very slow or just suck... anyways, my dad decided to buy a '98 V6 and the fuel pump went out . Well, I live in CA so every shop keeps saying that I have to buy a whole emissions friendly type pump or something...

but is the '98 fuel pump different than other years for some reason?

i just did a search and didn't really come up with anything. I also checked summit and couldn't really find anything for that year in V6...

I though our cars had the fuel return so i figured any year mustang fuel pump word work and any lph... but am I wrong???

What kind of fuel pump can I buy?

-Thanks

I didnt see any thing in the Haynes manual about needing a different fuel pump than any other mustang from the 94-99 year range, so any that would fit should go in, and the part numbers for the AZ fuel pumps are the same fdor the ones with california emmision as well as the one for federal emmisions, but maybe someone else in california can gelp you out a bit more

Do they drop the fuel tank and remove the pump during inspection?

If not, how are they going to know if it's "emissions legal" or not?

I have no idea, but autozone, kragen, poa, and anywhere else has said that they only sell a $225 assembly for a '98 v6.

I too checked the Haynes manual and didn't see any difference at all. I'm going to advise just buying one for the gt or a differnet year or something

thanks

You can find a good stock one on ebay. The California cars had the same fuel pump. The oump on ebay will be half what they want from AZ. I will check through my spares and see if I have one laying around.

probably wouldn't be the stock lph would it? but it shouldn't matter anyways.

yea, all this is what I thought, I just don't understand why multiple shops give me the same statement, and why summit doesn't list the v6 '98 pump.

S351R: that'd be cool if you could verify. I think he wants to install today, so even if it is a little more at AZ, he doesn't want to wait for shipping. But if you got it, let me know

i think I'm just going to tell him to pick one up at AZ for a different year, or just give them the part number and don't ask for that specific one... (that's what got him in trouble in the first place i guess)

Thanks guys!

I just don't get why a '97 and '98 would vary by $100 at AZ. I thought they were the same car??

I guess that was my question to begin with

EDIT:
i just checked out an ebay picture of the '98 and it looks totally different.

They sell '86-'97 ($100), '98($200), and '99-'04($100 same as '86-'97 pump) fuel pump categories WTF is up with that???
