How hard is it to rebuild a power steering pump? My cap dipstick somehow snapped off and got sucked into the pump, it makes horrible noises now. Flushed it out Saturday and that didn't make a difference, so I guess the whole pump is messed up. Autozone has new pumps for $95 plus $32 core, and rebuild kits for $12. Maybe I'm way out here, but that kind of savings makes me wanna at least check it out. ;) Anybody here done it? Any super-special tools needed?

there pretty easy to rebuild.Sounds like your gonna need a new accentric and vanes though. I think all that comes in a kit is just seals.you could probably pick up a pump at a junk yard for cheap and swap the acentric and vanes out.And no theres no speacial tools for it.just dont do like I did the first time and try to beat the resivior off and not take off the bolt holding it on there in the back.and as for quailty? All autozone does is buy there's from another company that gets theres from junkyards, cleans them up and replaces the seals.Theres not that many seals. If all else fails and you open your old one up and theres to much wrong with it then bolt it back together and give it to autzone as a core.

Hmm, okay. I might snag one from the JY and pull it apart so I know what I'm supposed to be looking at. How hard is the reservoir to bolt up to a new pump? Autozone here has a reman'd pump without a res. for $55, and I think my res is okay. My school just sent me $85 yesterday, so I might use that. :D
