I want to DD my stang when I get it done. Actually drive it as much as possible, but will have another backup car. I got a 408 with forged internals, 10.5:1 compression, 233 dur @.50 .574" lift with a 108lca roller cam out of the box AFR185 heads, vic jr intake, and probably a speed demon mech secondary carb(not sure what size yet). This is all going through a tremec 3550 trans and a ford 9" with 3.55 gears (might change to 4.10). I have never driven anything like this on the road, but I have been thinking of possibly throwing in a 347 i have lying around and running the same cam/heads on that.

:D What makes you think that combo is too extreme? Be even worse with the same heads/cam on a 347. I'm putting together a 331 with Canfield heads, Z303 cam,1.7 roller rockers and a six pack intake for my daily driver 89 Ranger :D

Seems reasonable, but probably inefficient and damned expensive with the cost of premium gas these days... $2.55 - $2.65 a gallon and climbing here in Seattle. With the Victor intake, big cam, high compression, sounds like you might build more power in the upper rpm range. You can probably make it more streetable by shooting for more torque in the lower rpm range, thus making it more efficient in the usual range you'll be driving in. The smaller AFR185s might actually help with this. This should also make the car a bit more zippy light to light, when you're not able to wring the engine to 6K rpm every time.

Hope this helps...

Just built up a 408 for my dads Pantera.

12.5 comp
AFR 205's
246/250 .050 duration and 620/630 lift solid roller
Vic Jr w/850 or 950 demon (cant remember :?)

Pulls like a mother, and definitely isnt lacking in the lower hp range one bit. I actually just went by what AFR recommended, give them a call, tell them all your specs and let them come up with a head recommendation.

Never thought we would spin those 315's on the rear of the pantera, but first gear it does and second feels like its right on the edge. :P

Big difference between a 2000 lb Pantera and a 3000 lb Stang when it comes to street manners :D And tire spinning capability. Got 275/60's on the back of my 89 Ranger and they're also easy to break loose with a mild 5.0 :D

Pantera weights 3050. :) Actually with me in the car and compared to my 65 stang, my stang only weights 100lbs more.

Pickup with motor in front with no weight in the rear and a Pantera with 11" rims and 12" tire with the mtr and tranny back there makes a huge difference.

In perspective, it feels like a mid to low 11 second car.

Damn I thought the Pantera's were a lot lighter than that.
