anyone dumping their exhaust

k, my over axel pipes are in pretty bad shape and are definetly the bottle neck on my exhaust because i didn't change them when i did the rest of my exhaust, so i thought that i may as well just ditch these pipes and dump right after the mufflers. i have dynomax super turbos (shoulda got ultra flows ) is this gonna make my exhaust sound louder? and also is there any safty concern with dumping the exhaust under the car? i don't have to pass any emmisions stuff so as far as i know this is perfectly alright around here.

i have dumped flowmasters on mine, loud as hell, when its dumped right the exhaust pipes point down to the ground so the sound reverberates off the ground making it that much louder, plus you have less pipe and less pipe = more noise , as far as inspection goes, your not supposed to pass with them because of the risk of gases getting into the cab, but no one has said anything to me yet so go for it!

well i wouldnt really know if i gained or lost anything from having dumps because they were already on there when i bought the car, but i wouldnt think youd lose torque from having dumps verses pipes, if you do lost any torque id think it would be pretty minute

I think that it is long enough that you wont lose any power. I have dumps on my car with no turndowns and it is very loud. I only race my car and had to put the muffs back on or go to jail (pesky neighbors). I never noticed any fumes in the car, I do reccomend some turndowns or slash cut the tip of the pipe.

cool, thanks guys, i think i'm gonna do it, my dad said that there may be some law that says the exhaust pipes have to exit from some point on the outside of the car, probably for gases the escape properly, but when your moving the gases are gonna blow out anyway. but the inspections here are really easy to pass, you don't even need mufflers as long as the exhaust is sealed from front to back then all is good (i was told this by the guy doing my vehicle safty when i bought the car)

I wnt to dump mine, but I am afraid of DRONE on the highway.....say 2300 RPM.

They will drone, but it does sound pretty good. The worst part to me is the exhaust smell getting in the cab. If I am driving a while or stop a lot while idling I always smell like a gas tank. I've had dumps now for a couple years, but I am getting the tailpipes put back one because of the fumes. It does sound really good though, especially at an idle, has a real deep sound. Be prepared to set of car alarms.

I have dumps on the 82, or at least headers, a short section of pipe and some Sonic turbos and that's it.

I had pipes run to the front of the rear wheels, but they were a pain and hung up on my trailer ramps.

They are fine for limited use, but, most places do require pipes past the passenger compartment. They do make more noise than I like, but they work, and this is only driven when the mood strikes, and at the track. With the windows up I sense some fumes from time to time, but I always open the windows because it has no ac.

I would not do this for a reqularly driven street car, especially if it had ac and a recirc position.

I took my tailsoff and didnt put turn downs on after the mufflers. Nice sound but I can feel the difference in off the linf performance. It doesnt have the low end torque that it had before. Love the sound but I dont think I am going to leave it because I would rather have the performance aspect. Maybe when I get my 3.73s on there I will take the tails back off and put turn downs on. and if you thought you had fumes in the cab with the turn downs on, try it without anything after the muffler. You'll notice the fumes then for sure!!

I run Dynomax Bullet's Dumped behind my 408 and there loud as hell. I do get marginal amount's of fume's when cruising around on the street's but on the highway I have no problem. I'd say go for it.... if you end up not liking it it's not hard to purchase some decent tailpipe's and throw them back on.

I just got tailpipes put back on my car after two years of dumps. It was night and day, I literally checked to see if I had different mufflers on there too, cause it was so much quieter. It's not as intimidating, but no drone and no fumes. I'm sure I'll miss it at times, but oh well.
