Seat of the Pants.

I think if i do dig into my rear, i might as well use it as a chance to upgrade parts. So i'm thinking 31-spline axles, aftermarket diff and maybe 3.55's or 3.31's.

I can't find new 3.31's. Will 2005+ 3.31's fit in an older axle? I really don't want to install used gears though....why i want to find new Ford 3.31's

Gears

Yeah I've only seen Motive 3.31s for sale myself. The 05+s are 8.8s though so I would sure think they would work and I see pulls on Ebay from those (although you said you don't want used)...

I wonder what speedo gear calibrates 3.31's?

Been playing with gear calculators. Starting to think i'll go 3.27. Gotta sleep on this over the winter before gathering parts for spring

well 3.73's from the 2.73's that I had on the car mad a HUGE difference! when I used to launch on the 2.73's it would not spin em until it got into the power band around 2500rpm.. It felt like vtec.. it was really funny... my cam didn't like those gears.. but the 3.73's really woke the car up!! the only reason I'm debating going to 3.27's is because it's now turbo'd and I want a little longer gear. I also want to go to a 6 speed though as well, I want the car to be reliable enough to drive to texas if I so wished.. or just about anywhere.

I have 4.10's currently. Not a big fan. Hard to get the car off the line with 17" DR's. The Nitto DR's were absolutely useless. The Mickeys are much better but far from hooking. 3.55's are coming.

Heyyy, you changed the title!

Like someone said above, I'm curious to see how the carbon fiber Trac-Loks work. I did the friction disk "mod" when I rebuilt mine, and it grabs really well.

Yup...i can do that ya know!

I'm gonna have to sit and ponder this for a while...maybe start putting together some rear end parts as well. Ahh...another project

Honestly...i don't think i enjoy having a "finished" car. I like gathering parts for a project instead

You have the right attitude. The only people who have "finished" cars are the ones who pay someone else to build them.

I was curious about the difference between my Car and my Truck. The Mustang has 3.55s and with the car in "5th Gear" at 60 MPH it was 1900 RPMs, my Truck has 3.73s and with it in "6th Gear" at 60 MPH it was 2100 RPMs. Even though the Car Revs lower it seems like it is much higher because it is loud.

what cars come with 3.08's from the factory? I'm determined to trade someone rear ends so I don't have to buy the gears and than have them installed

I know that the Foxes had that option as well, just don't know the specific years. I want to say it was something strange.
