Anyone ever dye interior parts, mainly seats?

I want to add a set of race seats to my car, and I'm about to purchase a set of Sparco Torinos. The problem is that I can't delete my rear seat (my daughter rides in the car with me sometimes) and its leather and the Sparco seats are cloth. I've priced out the sparco material and called a few upholstery shops to see how much it'd cost to have a 'vert seat recovered. I about fell over with the quotes I got, with me supplying the seats and material I've been quoted between $250-$500! I got to thinking I may just find a cloth 'vert seat and dye it black. I found a tan 'vert seat for $50 and I am thinking about buying it and dying it black. Has anyone ever done this, or know anyone that has? Has anyone done it to a tan seat? How did it come out and what did you use?

Paul, I have the Torino 2's with the 4pt harnesses. I also have the same hood as you. Looks like we have similar taste. Very cool!

I painted my air bags but thats as far as I have gone with interior design.
There is that Dupli-color ad on tv where the guy paints his red civic si's seats (among other things). How old is your daughter? Will she be riding back there for much longer?

Dead thread?

Huh?

Thanks for the info guys. I checked out that link but I'm not sure that it is for use on fabric as I only saw it recommended for leather and vinyl. BTW- I did get your PM but I've been extremely busy lately and haven't had much time to spend on here.

My daughter just turned 2 last week, so she'll be in the car seat for a while yet. I may do a rear seat delete now and use the center two seatbelt attachment points to anchor the "latch" mechanism to. I ripped the roll bar and rear seat out yesterday and started to fab up a rear seat delete. I may still look into getting the duplicolor stuff for a fabric rear seat I may pick up tomorrow.

Just joking. O I missed the cloth part. Yep, I did my own rear seat delete out of very thin and lightweight board from home dePOT and bought matching vynl to the leather from jo-ann fabrics. Cost me..$20 at the time.
