Is there anyone out there ever gutted the cats on their stock hpipe? I have one off a 2000 GT and was wondering if I could bust the cats and get better performance and sound. I had a buddy that busted the cats on a 97 F150 and it sounded like it was rattling when you got on the gas. If the stangs go that I'm not going to do it. I thought about doing just the front ones first and see how it sounds then maybe doing the back ones later. Will probably be pretty loud with 2 chamber flows.

i wouldnt do it, you might need them one day and u are ruining some stock cats that could save u one day.

just buy some high flows and a mid pipe to go with it.

I gutted the cats on my BBK h-pipe after a chunk broke off and was rattling around in there. They were pretty easy to get to, but I dont know if the stock ones would be. I used a really long paddle bit on a drill to get it all out.

dont gut the stock ones, it will be easier and cheaper in the long run to get a O/R h or x pipe. plus if your state ever adopts strict emissions testing, like in CA, you will need your stock pipe. the only legal midpipe in CA is the stock one.

I did it and though it sounded like crap. I already had an aftermarket exhaust and the combination of that and gutted cats increased the noise of the drone ten fold. Spring for an O/R H/X-pipe or at the very least weld some strait though pipe in place of the cats.

we shouldn't be talkin bout illegal stuff, it shouldn't be done. but if you do the sound will vary on what exhaust mods you have. mine sound great.

ya, if you ever go to crownvic.net, any talk of illegal mods is banned. you arent allowed to bring up the idea of removing cats.

if you really want to do it get yourself a piece of rebar like they use in foundations. a little bending will make it the perfect piece. get it down the pipe to the cats and strike it with a mallet a bunch of times. then just pick up the h pipe and tap in on the ground to get the chunks out. I wouldn't know anything about doing this............only saw my buddy do it!!
