Anyone experienced with sound deadening? help?

My G-Force is a loud trans - for me anyway. I would like to experiment with some sound deadening material. What REALLY works guys?

Ok, so whats your opinion on dynomat? Just for loud stereo systems? I want something that quiets gear, trans noise and really kills it.

Questions:

1. How many sq feet of material do we need for our interiors?
2. WHAT brand to buy? Dynamat? other? (i tried home depot special...its not so great.)
3. Any ideas for getting the center console out without destroying the leather e-brake handle or cracking the console itself?
4. Any other brands? Anyone head of: B-Quiet sound deadening materials - B-Quiet Vcomp ?

I covered my trans tunnel with generic sound deadner off ebay and it cut the heat from the trans felt in the center console in half and significantly reduced the sound. Just a single layer.

Thanks Dave, Iwill check this out. Anyone else? Wow the stuff I saw on ebay was dynamat extreme and was over $200. Is that high?

I've done the paint on type.

The very first place I would start is the shifter boot, if you haven't beefed up sound deadening there you are letting a lot of noise pour in.

Keith get the ebay special dyna mat.... IIRC fat mat??? buy a wooden roller and just lay it down and go to work... i usta be in to car audio.... dyna mat is expensive... and ive been told these other brands work just as good.

Do it outside on a sunny day. If you heat up before application it be tackier and will adhere better.

I'd like to ask a question here

If you use enough of that stuff to make a real difference in lowering the
db level, won't that much material add a significant amount of weight
to your Stang

See... you dont need that much to make a difference... one small square here and there isolates alot of the noise and panel vibrations which cause more... but yes it adds some weight

Both good points. After pulling up me carpet today I noticed Ford already put this stuff in many places of the sheet metal including from the firewall back to the beginning of the front seats and various other places including the trans tunnel. It is MISSING however under the front seats and the whole rear floor and parts under the rear seating which is quite a lot of space. Also, in the trunk.

All this space adds up to making the car an untuned instrument of whatever resonance from below. Kinda like a bell you ding. Then put some dynomat on the bell and it no longer carries the frequency...

SO. First I will try this. THEN I will test. If that does not kill the trans resonance enough, I will add some "overkill" insulation for the next frequency..then some "luxury- liner for the 3rd and final stage if that doesn;t work. Three stages but I hope to only need one. In the meantime I am lowering weight to compensat by removing the radio, speakers and some other key items. The fat mat is 15# and total of the other 2 sound deadeners will be maybe 7#. FORGET the MASS back. I have already done my research on it. Fitment is tough compared to the regular carpeting and it does nearly nothing to absorb sound compared to the 3 stage process I am speaking of:

Both products get applied on top of vibration dampers like Damplifier Pro (or fatmat) or Spectrum in order to reduce airborne sound waves, but they do it in two totally different ways.

Overkill filters out specific frequencies that are able to penetrate the first vibration damping layer, but because it is so light, it allows many other sound wave frequencies to pass right through.

Luxury Liner is a barrier that blocks and reflects the most difficult airborne sound waves that Overkill Pro is not capable of handling."
