Anyone have an "underpowered" black magic?

cause I dont. I posted a thread a while back, and I cant find it for some reason, about electric fans. Several people said the BM was underpowered, so I said I when I had it put on, I would post my results.

And the verdict is in, at least on my car it works great. The car runs at 190-200 degrees most of the time. The hottest the car has ran so far is 210. On a really hot day, after 3 or so hours of driving.

A lot of people say the black magics suck, but I'm not one of those people. This thing works great, at least for me.

The BM works great for me, but of course it compliments my fluidyne radiator, 180 degree thermo, and high flow water pump, but it works great for me. And you could say I am beyond the 225 hp rating they recommend for sufficient usage...

Yeah I should point out that I have a Ford racing aluminium radiator (4 row) also.

The wire came loose on my fan yesterday, and the car overheated, and when I recconected it, it seriously went from 270 degrees back down to 200 in a few minutes.

I am personally very happy with the fan.

270? Oh my. That is close to some damage/detonation. Glad you figured the wire problem out before some serious issues arose...

Keep in mind those temperatures are actually only a reflection of what the radiater temps are at, and not the actually block temps are. I hope with your radiator swap and BM install, somewhere along the lines you added at least another thermo, or even better a 180...

What was the temperature outside when you had this overheating issue? Have you been stuck in traffic in hot weather? Actually, my BM works well with my 302, but not my 351 car. I had to replace it for use in the 351. If you look on other boards covering areas where it's more commonly hot, you'll find the BM has its limitations. It is made in Milton though, so you are keeping the money at home!

Yeah it heated up when I was sitting on the all too common stop and go on 99W. I was shutting it off and starting it when I had to move, but after a 1/2 hour that wasnt working either. Sucks. I didnt change the thermo, but it hasnt been a problem.

It was whatever the temp was friday. 60 degrees or so. But the fan wasnt running. I have been stuck in traffic on a hot day, a couple weeks ago, it was 85-90 and I was doing the stop and go action. Thats when the temp went up to 210 at one point. Thats the highest I've seen my temp go since I had the fan put on. Can't complain about that.

My point was that you don't really know how the BM is going to work until you really give it a test on such a hot day. With our mild climate, it doesn't take too much to keep a car cool on the vast majority of days. I rarely even turn my fan on when I'm in my 302 powered car.

ive had mine on for 5 years with no problems, i also had it on a 347 stroker, with afr 185's it kept it at 180 all day long in any heat
