It's been done before but its a small pain. Once you get your bypass valve and fittings, drill your holes, then you get the fun job of screwing the plastic hose fittings into your inlet and discharge tubes. On my inlet tubing, I used my left over cold air induction system, cut it up, used some 3 1/2" rubber tubing and wound up welding fittings onto the pipe for the plastic valve to screw in to. I wish I had a digital camera, it turned out pretty nice. Anyway, back to the question. Yes you can do it, but be patient with the hole drilling and installing the fittings. Don't drill the hole too big or you're screwed too and don't overtighten the fitting or it will strip and start spinning around instead of tightening.

FYI, you can buy the plastic barb fitting at home depot in the plumbing section.
