Anyone have these: HID

The lights on both my foxes are pitiful and I was looking at my options. When I get in my SVT Focus (or any modern car) the lighting is great, but when I drive my '87 or '91 mustangs I feel like the lights aren't even on. Has anyone used any of the HI kits available like the link above?

i have HID's on my car. except i don't have the 8k kit, i have a 5k. sooooo bright, i have them aimed almost to the ground and i still have people flashing their brights at me! they look freaking GOOD. i've had them for a couple months but i've been too lazy to take pics at night. i'll get some up soon. i dont have stock lights like in the pic in my sig either, i have these 'euro' lights, looks amazing at night!

Thanks for the reply. I was looking at the 4300k kit or 6000k kit. Not too interested in the blueish/purple look. I assume that pic wasn't your car being that it was stamped with BlueOvalIndustries.com Any pics on your car.

Also, these kits are labled as "single beam"; does that mean that you no longer have the high beam function? If that's the case, will you still pass state inspection without high beams?

After a little research, it looks like you have the ultraclear lenses with Xenon bulbs. Are comparing apples to apples here? Is Xenon the same as HID?? I have no idea about lighting.....can anyone set me straight? I'm looking for a somewhat economical lighting improvement over stock.

You wouldn't pass inspection with HID's anyway...so not having a high beam is a moot point.

He has those headlights, but with a plug and play HID kit designed to work in a halogen housing.

Keep in mind most modern cars use projector lenses to properly display HID light. Foxes use reflector housings designed for halogen light. The use of HID kits in these is generally frowned upon because of the glare produced.

Some guys have properly retrofitted HID projectors inside the housings to product proper cut-off beams. These are purely custom however.

Using HID kits in the stock diffuser housings will disperse light well above the cut-off line. It may look cool to you, but it will blind everyone else on the road and be highly illegal.

Other ideas to improve lighting are to purchase the ultra-clear headlights, run higher than stock wattage Halogen bulbs and upgrade the headlight wiring with relays and 10g wiring to increase power to the lights. That will brighten your lights up while remaining legal

Thats the route i went with.I bought the Silverstar Ulra bulbs and have a new set of Ultra Clear headlights that i still need to install. I bought these.

How or where do you install the relays and the upgraded wiring. I already have ultrclears, but the light is still not great. I Would love a way to boost output.

raceaholic306 made a set of HID lights, fabbed into the stock housing. Came out really sweet.

For the best lighting you want under 6k ,anything over that becomes bluish and doesnt give off as much light.

Plug and play.Everything is included.2~3 days to get once you order ( im 2800 miles away and have gotten my kits in 3 days..

I know 25 peaple running these kits with no issues.

You can run upgraded wiring if you want,but being these kits draw less than stock bulbs i see no reason to upgrade.

yeah that's not my car, but i have those headlights with a plug-n-play HID kit with slim ballasts like 5L5 was saying. and they are the single beam ones, no high beams. you don't need them with these though, they are EXTREMELY bright. No added glare at night either. just gotta make sure you're not blinding people. i've been extremely busy lately with my two jobs, but like i said, i'll try to get some pics up asap.

And to add to that, the stock setup will illuminate the road where you need it...far, far better than an unfocused HID setup.

after a bit of aiming/adjusting, mine illuminate the road where i need them to with a cleaner, brighter light and i'm no longer blinding people. lol. but before i adjusted them, the light was just huge, bright and lit up EVERYTHING.

I'm sorry, but no amount of adjusting is going to enable the light to focus properly on the road...without the use of a proper projector lense. You may think it is...and compared to a set of crappy yellowed stock lights with old wiring, it may be. It still does not compare to a good working, stock setup.

hmmm... i have a retro fit kit in my fox, had it for almost 3 years now, and it lights up the raod better then my stockers ever did, and I had the crystal clear headlight set...

That's probably because your stockers had yellowed bulbs and worn out wiring.

Here is what a HID setup is supposed to look like...

Notice the crisp cut-off line?

Compare that to a non-projected HID setup...

Notice the big light blotch on the ground directly infront of the car...along with the intense glare thrown out in all directions? A properly working stock setup will throw the light where it needs to be, unlike the picture above.
