Anyone have this problem with AFM Products ???

I ordered a Super King Cobra clutch from them last week, and it arrived today. I opened the box to check everything out, and as i picked up the throwout bearing, i noticed that the big side is all dented up, has scratches, and looks like it was installed already.


Just for refrence: I AM NOT BASHING AFM

I dont know if it was due to shipping (more than likely) but ill be calling them tomorrow to see what they can do about it, and let you guys know. the rest of it looks really good, and thier customer service (when i ordered it) was awesome. Im just a little upset that i have to wait for this thing now before i can take my block to be balanced. ( a whole other story)

I've got my Powerpipe, my clutch fork, and maybe something else from them. It's pretty bad when you've put so much money and stuff on your car you can't remember what you got and from who. Anyway, I really like their quality and their service, no complaints here.

You don't need the throw out bearing to have your assembly balanced. You can still take your clutch in to be balanced with the assembly and hopefully afm sends you a new one.

Personally unless it is an extremly high rpm, high dollar race engine the clutch/pressure/plate and disc are in the noise for balancing......

Ok, i keep hearing that i shouldnt need my clutch for balancing, so i finally called the dude this morning to see why i needed it. He says that the machine he has was setup to balance nascar engines. he said they way its setup is to balance the entire rotating assembly, flywheel, & clutch. Is this guy blowing smoke up my @ss or what? I dont know much about balancing in the first place, so this is throwing me off.

I can see doing that on a Nascar engine, they spin 8000+rpm for 500miles, a street car doesn't. However if he is doing it at not additional cost it will not hurt a thing....

Never seen a special balancing machine that is made just for a balancing the bobweight with a clutch/flywheel/pressure plate however...

Im trying to arrange a truck to put the block, and all the other stuf in, ill let you guys know how it turns out... this is starting to worry me

I have always have had really good luck with AFM!! I have used and still use a lot of thier parts.

As far as balancing your assembly with or without the clutch like Rick 91 GT said, it's not manditory but if they will do it at no extra charge then great!! The guy that does my machine work always balances my flywheel and Pressure plate as part of my assmeblies. They don't need the disc or throwout bering to do it so the bad bearing shouldn't be a problem.

I just called and talked to a dude named Brian. (same dude that took my order initially) He apologized, and agreed that it was probably a shipping error.. i told him id gladly send it back so they could see what was up, and he said it wouldnt be cost effective for either of us, and he has a new bearing being shipped out today.


that place has FANTASTIC customer service. I would recommend them to anyone. They could have said no, it wasnt thier fault, or any number of things to try and save a few bucks, but instead, they took a small hit, and helped me out.
