I have a 2000GT with 40K miles and it and after a few upgrades I believe it's time for a better than stock torque converter.

Anyone ever hear of TCS Torque convertors? Anyone use them? I believe Lentech uses TCS but don't quote me on that. I've done some research here and on other boards and the name Dirtdog pops up eveywhere but with no contact info.

I'm looking for 3000 stall, here are my mods: Steeda UD pullies and TA set at 14 degrees (great mod), ported upper intake and K&N FIRK (whatever the hell its called), 3.73s with a Dennis Reinhart chip, upr and lower control arms, complete exhaust system with factory headers, American Torq Thrust II's with a 9.5 inch rear with sticky 275/40/17's on them.

I don't want a PI converter cause I really don't want to spend $800 dollars for a extra 1000 stall.

Are you going to spam that junk on every TC thread?

Have you installed that TC yet?

Are you saying the product is bad, or you just venting at the guy. Since we're both in Canada, do you recommend anyone's product here north of the border.

Both, I know that product will not consistently hold a Locked up WOT shift. Here he is again advertising this product that he has but has not even installed it yet.

There are decent TC's out there to get, but I don't know any from our side of the border, they are all in the US.

Which parts are you referring to?

I buy from a lot of different reputable places in the US and pay the shipping.

I doubt you have anything to back up what you just said.

I watched while they built mine and was assured they are more than capable of holding fully locked at any WOT application. All his custom race converters are built to withstand racing environments.

I suggest you call or e-mail Bill at West Coast Racing Converters.

You have his converter, is it installed? Last I heard you don't and you are telling people how great it is. How the hell do you know how good it is when you don't even have it installed?

When I bought my TC about 1.5 years ago now, I talked to West Coast Racing Converters as I almost bought one. I may even have those emails stored away. There is a few reasons why I don't have a WCRC TC in my car.

What I suggest and that goes for anybody wondering BTW is that you search around the forums out there and see what people have and what works.

An ok TC is the PI Triple Disc:

For the most part a good TC, I know of broken ones and it is pricey.

If you are looking for cheaper, there is not a lot of single disc TC's out there that are good.

I suggest you talk to Chris here:

http://www.circledspecialties.com/

I have another person, but do not have a public contact for him and I won't post the ones I have. You can reach him through Modular Depot.

If you are looking at WCRC, consider this company as the TC's are identical.( Hmmm, I wonder why that is? ) Actually I don't.

http://www.edgeracingconverters.com/products.htm

I wouldn't recommend either.

I just noticed this..., If you want contact info for Alan AKA DirtyDog, PM me.

Now if you want to step up in Stall, I have one of his single plate TC's. I am moving up to his 5 plate TC, so I will be selling this one.

First, I think a few things need to be pointed out here.

I have a Precision Industries Stallion single disk torque converter w/ 3000 stall. Its been in there for about two years now, but I do believe I'm having problems with the clutch plate slipping. From what I've been reading, I'm not the only one with this problem.

I've been informed by numerous people that the problem wtih single disk torque converters is they can't stay locked during WOT shifts, because 1 disk doesn't have enough strength to do it, and therefore, they burn out prematurely if used in this fashion.

I think this is a bit misleading. Here is why I say this.

For many years, guys with all different race type vehicles have been running 500-600hp through single disk torque converters without any problems. Yet, here we have a few bolt-on wonders(me included) who are blowing our single disks out by locking them up at WOT with WAY less than any 500hp. If you ask me, I think there must be either a flaw design in the clutch plates these torque converter companies are using, or, its a line pressure feed problem that is specific to the 4r70w transmissions. As a matter of fact, the latter is what Bill at WCC suggested to me when I spoke with him over the phone a couple weeks ago. After considering what he said, and considering what I know about the problems people have been having with these 4r70w torque converters, that is very much a strong possibility.

Remember, it doesn't matter if you're running a single disk, or a 10 disk torque converter. If that converter clutch does not recieve enough line pressure feed, it will burn out every clutch plate you have, despite what they're made of and despite how many you have. So, if there is a line pressure feed problem, that needs addressed before the issue of "multi disk" vs. "Single disk" needs to be addressed.

As for other torque converter companies, there are numerous companies out there. I'll give you a list of some

Precision Industries
Lentech
Pro Torque
Circle D Specialties
Level 10
Performance Automotive Interceptor/Dominator torque converters
Spec-Rite torque converters
West Coast Converters
Victoria automatic Torque converters
TCI automotive
Bauman engineering
B&M
Howards Torque

Then there is Dirtyd0g, but I don't know much about his converters.

I'm glad someone talked directly to Bill At WCC.

He is a cool guy and very knowledgeable when it comes to racing and converters.

So Edge is blaming the 4R70W for his failed TC's?

No. He's just informing me this is why he thinks MANY companies torque converters are failing in the 4r70w automatic. He never said he had a problem with his failing in cars though, but I wouldn't be shocked that it hasn't happened. Just we don't know about it yet.

When I spoke with Bill, I told him I didn't believe that a high quality and reputable company like Precision Industries would put a crappy lining in a converter on purpose. He agreed. He even told me and I quote "Precision Industries makes some good *****." In other words, he didn't bad mouth or say anything negative about Precision Industries. He didn't bad mouth anyone. He was straight forward about things, and didn't give me the run around. Very knowledgeable guy as well.

What Bill was trying to point out to me, and what I'm trying to make clear to you now is there seems to be an issue with torque converters in 4r70w automatics failing for "odd" reasons, and I don't think the "quality" of the linings in torque converters or number of plates is really the issue. I've sent SCT guy(Jerry) a PM at Modular Depot to try to get his input, but he hasn't responded yet.
