from my understanding, from what a car club member who lives in PA told me. is that inspection is only for car that have OBDII. which are for cars made for the 96 to present year. so i don't think you have to get it inspected. but don't hold me to it. this is what i was told.

sorry, I think your wrong. My best friend is an inspection person, so I dont even have to worry about it. Though my car is subject to inspection and emissions. My car wouldnt have passed due to my lack of cats for inspection, and most likely for emisisons, though i never tried. We use another car in my cars place for the emissions. Where are you thinking of moving to?

Um they look for alot of things like working lights/signals, seatbelts, things like that. Most places wont care as long as your care is safe (good tire tread left, brakes are within spec). The emmisions is done on a dyno type thing yes. As far as that, there are certain numbers you must do better then or no go. Collegeville isnt too far away from where my friend works (Chalfont) im sure hed hook you up.. Most people who are mechanics are obviously car people. and with that said, they are willing to look the other way on some things. Whats your full setup like???

even the pre 1996 cars are dynoed for emiss?

Yeah, I think all cars are emission tested unless they are considered a classic, or you dont drive them over like 5k miles a year, or something like that.
Emissions depends on which county you are in. In the larger cities, they have the tail pipe sniffer test, most other counties have either just a visual test with the gas cap check or none at all. We do have yearly inspections though where they check the brakes, lights, horn, wipers, tires, etc. I don't know where collegeville is, so I can't help you with that. there is legislation right now to change the current laws so that emissions will NOT be required and inspections will move to every other year. If you drive less than 5K miles a year then you are exempt from emissions testing no matter where you are but you still have to pay for the emissions sticker.

Killer nailed it. College ville is considered a suburb of philly i belive, so I think it has the sniffer test. I know I do and im more north then collegeville.

You will have to pass a safety inspection AND an emissions inspection. If you pass the safety inspection; but fail the emissions, they will withold the safety sticker. If you fail emissions. you can get an exemption by spending $150 with a certified mechanic trying to correct the problem.

Collegeville isn't that far away from me, so you'll definitely need a sniffer test. I have a friend that passed me last March and now I keep the mileage under 5k to avoid the emissions portion of the test. If you can't find anyone up there to pass you, I might be able to help you out.

We have the California type test here. for emissions they run your car on a dyno like thing with the sniffer and you can't change cars cause it will show up on the computer. Its a pain in the ass first tiem i got mine tested it failed but teh guy messed with my timing enought to pass it but that was only because it was after my first oil change and i didn't know we have 2 drain plugs. Ever since its been fine. Like Killer said its all in where you go we have the all out test and the next county over just started emissions and does the old way of testing and its only for like 90 some and up but here you get emissions unless your car is 25 years or older
