Anyone in the Houston area use Strictly Performance?

I sent an email to Richard Lelsz of Strictly Performance yesterday, not expecting a reply soon. I asked if he tuned on cars as old as my fox to which he replied quickly, "Sure!, that's what I grew up with!" He then recomended I use a much bigger blower (t-trim or Ysi) than I had planned to allow room for growth on my project. I had been planning on a V3 si. I told him I eventually want to build a dart block bottom end and turn up the boost.

These folks have made the cover of MM&FF more times than I can count, and have set plenty of records. Their magazine and internet reputation is impressive, but I've never spoken with anyone who's used them. Anybody know Richard or had him work on your car?

ive never used him to tune anything but ive talked with him a bunch of times. i work for a competitor of his and unlike some other tuners in the game he's pretty civil

You'll hear both sides when you hear people talk about Strictly; some people preach about having a great outcome while others complain that he popped their motor.

I've talked to them a few times while in the 4.6 game but always picked other shops when the final decision was made. What exactly are you trying to get the shop to do?

Well, as stated before in other threads, I want to go to a V3 si trim supercharger and I've had many people tell me to ditch the FMU and get a fuel management system with a good tune. I'm pretty confident I can install everything. I just need a good tuner.(Eventually. The IRS is humping my leg right now...)

Have you posted on some of the local sites (westsidemustangs.com or htownracing.com) to get their idea on who the better fox tuner is?

I believe you will be able to get a quality tune from either of those shops; I would personally go with strictly over HP from the things I have read.

Be aware that you are going to read horror stories from each shop if you search a ton for information on them. That seems to be very common for performance shops as some will give praise while others will only rag on a shop. I'm sure for every horror story of a blown engine, there are hundreds or even thousands of satisfied customers that didn't post up on the internet about being pleased with the work.

If you do have plans to upgrade the lower end and throw a large amount of boost at it; skip the SI route and go for a JT or YSI or you'll be paying to upgrade later when you get greedy for power.

I've been lucky enough to catch an awesome sponsor that tunes for me and am able to survive on email tunes as I can datalog and send the information back. I use the closest dyno to me which is at Slaters in the Humble area to get my tunes dialed in.

You might also check with Patrick over at PSI (in Webster) as I know he is considered one of the best for the modular mustangs but I know its difficult to get him on the phone. It wouldn't hurt to get in contact with them to see if they work on 5.0s as well We are real lucky in the Houston area to have a large amount of quality tuners/builders to pick from. This also helps to find who will offer the better price; but most importantly speak with whoever will be doing the build to make sure you are comfortable with them.

pat@PSI does great work... on lightnings. dont think they do anything else though.

I know they do 4.6 modular mustangs and he even gave me a good price on a header install for my 2011. He has expanded quite a bit and has a lot of loyal customers with fast street cars.

cool! didnt know that... last time i talked to any of them they were working on Chads "fuzzies" old silver silver truck to do the standing mile.

I will be out there in October at the mile and hope they get out there then as well. I know Flaco hit 199.xx in his Silverado earlier this year so it wont be long until a truck breaks 200s.
