Anyone know anything about....

With stock 2.79 gears in a mild cam 289 and toploader I was getting close to 20 mpg with that carb. I still have it. It was $179.99 4 years ago.

Is this to say it is more of an economy carb? I want a little bit of performance out of it, I have a mild 289 with 2.79 rear gears and a 3 speed. Typically I have noticed that less mpg = more performance, but maybe I am just wrong

It's a performance carb, for the most part, meant for multi-carb applications. I think you can still get a 450 with a vacuum secondary and a choke. If not, I think a properly tuned 600cfm vacuum would work better. Vacuum secondaries are the perfect variable venturi carb.

I got good power out of it when I swapped rear gears. But the 650 double pumper was better for power. Like maxpower said, it works great for 2x4 setups. I had two on top of a high rise tunnel ram dual quad intake. Two of them make 900cfm, and it was overkill. I was just saying, I got good gas mileage driving across the country with that carb.
