Hi,

I am installing new gauges on my 2001 Mustang GT, and it needs me to hook up the wires to a 12v positive and negative source behind the dash. Does anyone know where some may be?

I installed some glow gauges that needed to be hooked up, though for the life of me I cannot recall the voltage though it should be the same. I spliced into the headlight wire, in my 2000 GT its the brown wire with a white stripe located in the junction box behind the headlight switch. For mine there was no negative wire, the other wire was a ground and I placed it under the dash near the fuse box, I just wraped it around the screw there and tightened it. I reccomend hooking up the gagues to the headlight wire, so whenever you turn on your lights, so will your dash.

Are you using the el-glo gagues? Thats what I have. The instructions they provided really were no help, I had to figure it out myself.

I would make sure the voltage is correct before hooking up. Use a voltmeter before doing anything, dont want to blow your transformer in the gagues.

Can I go through the fuse box?? If so, how?

Sure you can run to the fuse box....that's what I did. I used two of the mini fuse taps to run the wires to the gauges in my A-Pillar. One for power and the other one ran to the "auto-dim" circuit so the illumination would dim with the rest of the dash lights. For power, I think I used the fuse slot that was reserved for the convertible top power (I have a coupe so it wasn't being used). The only down side to using the fuse taps is that the cover won't fit back on the fuse box. Oh yeah....don't forget to ground the gauges.
