does anyone have any pics or advice on how to install it? the instructions i got with it are kinda confusing. whats confusing me the most is the t clips that they talk about in the instructions. are those the blue connectors that come with the adaptor? and another question is where did you mount the adapter? any help would be appreciated.

I can certainly appreciate your confusion. The blue tap in connectors are the blue ones that appear to be open requiring them to be folded over a wire to tap into them.

I haven't installed my adapter yet. I was questioning whether you could install it near the computer in the passenger kickwell. According to the instructions it is supposed to be installed in the engine compartment splicing into the crackshaft sensor wires. That however requires you to cut into a shielded cable and routing the red power wire and green tach wire through the firewall.

What I'm wondering is if you can install the adapter into the wiring near the computer. It would be much easier using the instructions (with some modifications) the the PEP adapter uses. I'll see if I can find the link and post it for you. I haven't been able to find anybody to give me a valid reason why the adapter (MUST) be installed in the engine compartment!

Here is the best instructions yet. The only difference I can see between this adapter and the FRPP adapter is that the PEP adapter only requires one wire to tap into the crankshaft sensor wiring whereas the FRPP requires you to tap into both wires. Of course the obvious difference is that the PEP adapter is installed under the dash at the computer and the FRPP in the engine compartment. My parts guys says it has to be, but can not tell me why, or beyond that what the effect would be if it wasn't,.......
I've posted this question before and as yet have not received an answer,..good luck. I might just try it as see what happens!

If you do let me know,..........

Ok,...I tried installing the FRPP tach adapter at the computer in the passenger kickwell,.....the tach worked well, but so did the check engine light!,.....As soon as I disconnected the wiring, the check engine light went out. So, I guess you really do have to install it in the engine compartment.

I installed my FRPP adaptor just like the instructions said. I just unplugged the crank sensor, peeled back a tiny bit of the insulated wire and put the t-clips on. I put the black box under the air box, nestled in the crook of a wire harness so it's not going anywhere. Then I ran the power and ground wires over to the underhood fuse box. The reason Ford goes directly to the crank sensor is because it's a more accurate place to get a tach signal from. I've found that the factory tach reads about 200rpm higher than it really is at 6k.

The reason why the ford tach adapter is installed in the engine compartment is because it's a generic unit that can be used across a number of ford vehicle lines, where ours is mustang specific. Splicing in the wiring by the PCM and by the crank trigger will net you the same signal, same accuracy.

I've ordered the PEP adapter and I'll install it as soon as it arrives. I have an electron tachometer at work that I use to calibrate centifuges,....I'll use that to compare readings. I don't doubt for a minute the accuracy of the PEP unit considering all the positive feedback I've been reading recently.

I should really learn to proof-read,....that's an electronic tachometer,.....duh It uses a reflected beam of light to calculate RPM.
