I bought a kenwood from crutchfield , but the radio does not bring in stations like a new car radio, so my question is would a mach 460 radio sound good in my 95
I actually liked the 460 Mach in my previous 94. My current 94 has the 460 but the head unit was changed to a huge touch screen which we hate. I'd like to go back to the stock head unit.
All the speakers were high quality JL audio and two amps under the deck lid.
I loved the Mach 460 in my 2003 GT. I thought it was a great system for oem.
I traded that car in for a new Infiniti with the Bose premium setup and can remember being disappointed in it after having the Mach system for a few years prior.
Of course, I'm sure a properly setup aftermarket system would be much better
I've had the Mach 460 in all the Mustangs I've owned, even installed it in one GT that didn't have it. The strength of the system isn't the head units, it's the 8 speakers and three amps. It gets even better when you put sound insulation in the doors to keep the sound from echoing inside all that empty space.
I would check that your antenna plug is firmly in the head unit, and didn't come loose when you put the head unit in the dash. You could also have a bad head unit or a frayed antenna cable.
I haven't changed out a radio in quite sometime ... however it should have an 'antenna trimmer' adjustment on the unit. This is used for impedance
matching. Check for this and it will most likely solve your reception difficulties. If you call Crutchfield they should be able to assist you with
locating this adjustment screw (potentiometer) and you will find it to be a very quick and simple task.
I could go into what is called in the business as standing wave ratio and antenna reflectivity, but no one really cares. Bottom line is the need to tune your
radio to your antenna and coaxial cable and is called 'trimming' the antenna. Tune to center station and adjust for max volume is basically all there is to it.
Just a taste of electronic wizardry ... a radio does the following: reception, selection, detection, amplification and reproduction.
receives signals ... selects station ... detects intelligence (strips usable data from carrier wave) ... amplifies usable data (turn it up) and reproduces it
or sends it to the speaker.

The antenna wire on the 94 is a two piece wire. 95 is probably the same. The first piece runs from the radio to just above the glove compartment where it plugs into the wire coming from the antenna. Make sure you did not accidentally disconnect it. It is the same type of push in connector used in back of the radio.
