I have been trying to gether information on putting a turbo on my 93' mustang 2.3L DP. I heard I could:

a) some how fix it where its just one set of plugs being fired and drop in a turbo motor from like a 88' TC ( rebuild it)

b) use the DP, but rebuild it to handle the boost and then:
1. need a cobra MAF and 36# injectors and that will work with the stock
ECM.

2. bolt on a turbo ( plumb it) and a E6 exhuast manifold( and plumb it)

3. use a MSD DIS-2 if needed.

Has anyone out here used a DP with a turbo? I've seen it done but on a pinto and I'm looking to try and keep the car in complete running condition as I can. I'm just looking to get 200 HP which shouldn't be hard.

Thanks

why dont you just drop in a turbo motor from an 88TC like you said and rewire the ignition. you would need to get the computer as well obviously. mine is a '93 and I did just that.

If I use the DIS they say the timming is to advanced in which I'm still trying to figure out. If I use a distr, I guess I will need the wiring harness and rewire the engine compartment. If I have to use a turbo ECM It's obvious that I will need to repin it some, which I found a incomplete pin char on this.

Did you use the DIS or a distrib?

I got a 8UA and a big VAM, also the 88TC I will get the engine from has a LA3. Now I heard the MAF off a cobra with 36/lb injectors is plug-n-play with the stock ECM. As for the engine I would rebuild it with turbo parts ( valves/pistons etc)

Thanks for the tip.
I have been following this group which some of them is on turboford, another group I follow.

I know putting a turbo on a DP engine is possiable, but maybe not by me. It seems a lot more complacated than I got time for.

Maybe going N/A would be easyier for me since all I want is 200hp, hell maybe by then they'll have a easy turbo install kit for people like me when I'm done

they don't just turbo the DP motors, the play extensively with the computer.

I think I may have it figured out ( With lots of help lol ), I was pretty tired when I posted that last one. This maybe a way to use the DP-DIS and not have to modify or repin anything on my 93' 2.3L Mustang.

1) rebuild the DP-DIS using turbo parts ( forged pistons/valves allows more safety margin) and port and polish the head.

2) make the oil line for the turbo to use on the DP-DIS motor
( there is something else on the block but I forget ; jamie on Turboford told me about it and I have to go back and look it up)

3) E6 Exhaust with a 3" down pipe with 2.5" piping ( maybe 3").

4) use a 88' TC IHI tubro/IC ( because I can get one easy and set at 9 psi for now)

5) BOV

6) Use a Cobra MAF with bigger injectors like 36#, just not sure if the stock ECM can fire them ( This idea from Silverhorsracing's Marcello Canitano) ( or a Pro-MAF the one for this ap is like 350.00-Idea from Buzturbo)

7) Use a MSD -DIS-2 (idea from Buzturbo) With the stock DIS

8) Boost & Fuel pressure gauge

9) bend the AC lines so turbo dont burn them ( carefully)

I'm guessing this would work without repinning or rewiring under the hood. The MSD should be able to help with the timming issues I heard about, but still need to look into it some more. They say the timing advances when the motor heats up and I'm not sure if the MSD would retart this( if so is it atuomatic or do I always have to mess with it) I'm sure there is a few small details I missed and need.

Any opinions on this?

Or, you could just use a motor/harness/computer from a TC and save a lot of time and money.

you are making it hard. just use the vam, an la-series eec, and it will work fine. the wires will swap between the diferent ignition and work out well

If the money was there could this idea work ?

Could the stock ECM off the 93' 2.3L fire 36lb injectors with a cobra MAF set for them?

Also could the MSD DIS-2 keep the timming under controll?

I would really love it if I could do this and use the DIS and not a distrib. To me it would be so much smoother looking with the DIS than the distribitor.

Thanks

P.S here is a pic of a guy who did swap in a turbo motor but used the DIS also. The way I see it, either way I go the motor will be rebuilt and the head ported & polished. I will just use the DP-DIS motor. The 88'TC I will part out to do all my swaps has 183k and needs work anyways.

he doesn't want to turbo his DIS car to a distributor, he wants to build a 2.3T using a DIS.

it will be much esiar using the DIS block, so the dizzy and timing marks for the DIS are set, the you need to make a oil return bug in the oil pan above the oil line, you can use the oil send line from the 2.3T just be sure to use the oil sender from a 2.3T and it will hook up just fine. you could possibly use a MSD to help with timing, but you still need to manage the fuel injectors and fuel maps.

Kinda

See I got a 93' DP 2.3L mustang I would realy like to just bolt on a turbo to it and run it.
( that is the simplest I can go)
I do understand its not this simple and will need some figuring out, I'm just squaring away the details of how it will work.

I would be using a 93' 2.3L DP block, DP head and DIS.
( Now I would rebuild the motor because I can, also that way it will be dependable at higher boost)

Turbo parts as well as other parts like a T-5 would be comming off a 88' TC.

It seems easy enough to do, but yet complacated. If the ECM can fire the 36lbs injectors/manage the fuel and the MSD-DIS-2 can manage the timing I may have if worked out.

On this fuel management deal shouldn't the ECM do this? I really don't want to buy a Stand Alone fuel system?

Also on the oil pan deal your talking about, will the oil pan off the 88' 2.3L TC work on the 93' 2.3 N/A DP block?

If so this will save me a step.

Thanks

I have one running right now
You can run a supercoupe maf and injectors
with the stock computer but you will need the DIS 2 with boost retard
and you will need to put a check valve on you vac supply right a the manifold
You can also use the stock turbo block just use the pulley set up from your 93
this requires that you drill and tap two small hole for your ignition pick
the oil return bung in the oil pan deal is if you use your 93 block
the oil return on the turbo coupe is in the block.
you will need a fuel pump, the stock pump will not do
THE EASIEST WAY there is a real good chance you could use the t- coupe computer, vam and injectors
with the dis module and dp head.
I know I'm gonna get flamed for that.
But the dis module PIP signal is the same as the TFI PIP signal they are both HALL EFFECT
EDIS modules use VR Sensor but the DIS module is kind of a transitional Module between EDIS and TFI
the key is in the SAW signal which I believe is also the same but I can't swear to it.
But I am pretty dam sure. This can be verified pretty easy if your t-coupe runs in the car it is sitting in. IF you want to see if this works Email my and I will send instructions on how to test it. You can contact me directly at Giamanut@comcast.net
