Anyone running a Spec Stage 2 plus clutch?

I've had a Spec Stage 2 clutch in my car for a few years and overall it's been pretty decent. I'm getting ready to replace my T5 with a Tremec 600, so I need a new clutch. I was thinking of getting a Stage 3, but I'm a little concerned about harsh engagement. The Stage 2+ seems to be a good compromise between the Stage 2 and Stage 3. Any thoughts?

If you want to stay with a spec clutch you will just have to learn how to deal with the way it drives. It's just a matter of what your willing to put up with. I know GRN92LX has mentioned a different kind of clutch that is custome built that might work better. It might be worth a try

Hi,
I have had Spec 2+ for a month, just got it broke in about a week ago. Had a centerforce for about 9 months before I fried it. Anyway back to the Spec... The pedal is stiffer and it is either on or off. I improved my 60 ft's by a couple tenths, I blame the clutch:rolleyes: I don't like the stiffer feel but like the 60 ft's. :D

i only heard good things about spec 3, hays clutches and king cobras! i dont know about others....
i hate centerforce my cousin blew 3 kits with 5000RPM launches now he put king cobra and problem solved and has like 7 month with it!

Thanks for the replies, I had originally planned on the stage 3, and I think I'll probably end up going that route. How heavy is the pedal on the stg 3? My stg 2 is a little on the heavy side

Pedal pressure was very stiff at first but after it broke in it seemed to smooth out. I am use to it now and have no problems. However it definately doesn't have a stockish feel to it like some clutches do. In other words, other cluthes will feel like poo compared to it.

cool, thanks. I'm also still debating between an aluminum or billet steel flywheel. I think I'm leaning toward the steel because my car is pretty much only driven on the street, and it's heavy. I also figured that with a grabby clutch like the stg 3 , it would be easier to get the car moving from a stop if I had the heavier flywheel?

Go aluminum hands down. My car is my spring/summer daily driver and I'm just fine with the aluminum. It did feel like I lost a little low end from it, but boy did it make up for it on the top end. It feels like an easy 15+rwhp gain passed 4000rpms. The pros outweigh the cons so it is well worth it IMO. I was in the same boat as you and finally decided to take a chance and give the aluminum a shot. At first I remember feeling a little disapointed because my car was hard to drive, mainly due to the cluch. But now 1000 miles later I am HAPPY I CHOSE THE ROUTE I DID. I got a new Fidanza aluminum flywheel for $280 shipped on ebay. Worth every penny. You will be fine with the aluminum. It will just take some getting use to mainly due to the clutch, but trust me you will BE FINE. Don't listen to other people who bash the aluminum flywheels because most of them have never run one. Take advice from me or someone like Grn92LX who ACTUALLY RUN ONE.

Man, this is a tough decision. I think I'll take a chance and go with the stg 3 and alum flywheel. Thanks again

The clutch will be very touchy and overly grabby at first so be prepared. I had to take my car to some back roads where there is no traffic and practice a bit. A few days later and I was fine... They say with an aluminum flywheel the more the power the better advantage with it. All I have is a stock 302 block with Edelbrock heads, performer intake, and an e-cam. Given this I am perfectly fine with the flywheel. You will not have any driveability issues, it will just a little getting use to. Good luck and let us know how everything turns out when all said and done.

If you're gonna go with a spec clutch, i'd do the spec 2+ kit with the light weight option. I agree 110% on going with an aluminum flywheel. I have one in my street car and I got stuck for over an hour in NYC rush hour traffic this past saturday and it drove fine ;)

I personally run a mcleod dual friction disk and a promotion powertrain modified/blueprinted FMS heavy duty press plate and its a killer set up. Its not grabby or hard hitting like the spec stuff. It is modified to handle a butt load of power and higher rpm shifts. Some clutches aren't meant to be shifted high and they won't disengage at a high rpm shift.

Where did you buy your McLeod / FMS set up? How much? I'm a little not too sure if I want to do the stg 2 again because I'm hoping to get something with a little bit lighter pedal this time around. I originally thought about a CF dual friction, but they don't seem to last too long at my power level. Decisions, decisions...

Other clutch set ups like the Centerforce DF and Mcleod are nice. My friend has a CF and I like it very much so. It is a lot easier on the leg and is easier to drive around town. IT IS a better daily driver clutch. However I just prefer my spec for now. I wanted a hard hitting clutch and thats what I got. It hits much harder than the CF and it will handle more power. Like I said once you are use to it you'll be fine :nice:

You can get this clutch kit from www.nitrostangracing.com for $289. He is a dealer for promotion powertrain. Get the blueprinted FMS HD unit, not the blueprinted king cobra. The FMS HD handles more power and rpm for the same price.

spec 3 here, after you learn how to use it and where it slips you'll love it good luck
Agreed man, had mine for quite a long time 2 and still grabs like a mo-fo... Just gotta get used to it, and put it in neutral when sittin at a light.... Just give a lil most spce when in bad traffic so you can let the clutch out a bit insted of tryen to slip it for only a few feet... But you'll like dude i'd never go back to anything lower :flag:

Yeah... I find my self keeping a little more space in stop and go traffic also
