Need help choosing a Cam

Just wondering if anyone has any details about the Anderson N-41 Cam? I checked out the dyno info on their website, but I was just wondering if anybody has any seat of the pants info about how it feels and performs.

i'd like to know too. i'm debating between that cam and the tfs stage 1. i'm probably going to end up with the tfs cam though because its cheaper, and i'm not sure if the n-41 would be too much for my combo. (everything in sig + thumper heads)

The reason I ask is because I've read at these posts that the TFS Stage 1 is a dog from 1000rpm-3500rpm. It comes on really hard from 3500rpm on. I'm trying to decide on a cam for future purposes. Gonna add Twisted Wedges, RPM II, 70mm TB, 75mm or 80mm mass air, JLT CAI, 30lb injectors, tune, and all the other smaller supporting pieces. Just narrowing down a cam. I'm thinking either between a Steeda #18, Anderson N-41, or an E303. I'll still be utilizing the stock 5.0 bottom end. The car will be mostly street with probably a once a year strip trip. I really want to break the 300RWHP mark. I'm open to suggestions though. Anybody out there recommend something else?

The stage 1 pulls hard from idle on up if it is matched properly.

In my Droptop I had forged 306 zero decked 10:1 comp afr 165 heads cobra intake with ported lower by tmoss.

65 mm tb 24# injs 5 speed

It pulled hard from the get go.

That's interesting.
There is a tech article on the 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords website that shows dyno results from the Trick Flow top end kit which includes the TFS stage I cam. Results were very poor in the low RPM range, even below the exhisting stock set-up.

Check it out page 4 of the article.
http://www.mustang50magazine.com/te...1988_ford_mustang_heads_cam_intake/index.html

Maybe thats due to other parts of the in the kit.

Out of the ones listed, the N41 will work best with what you have planned.

from what i hear, that's because the stage 1 cam is actually too small for the heads/intake in that top end kit.

Subscribing, Cenok I've heard that too. What OTS cam do you think would maximize the TFS top end kit?

i'm not sure off the top of my head, but i've noticed a lot of people just ditching the stage 1 for the stage 2 or getting a custom cam made

i've had the N-41 cam for the last 5 years and love it. I have the trickflow track heat intake, twisted wedge heads and a 70mm TB and spacer. It pulls hard from idle to 6000. My buddy has the same setup but with the TFS stage 1 cam and i think mine pulls much harder off the line than his and has a nice lopey idle to it.

A buddy of mine has the B-303 cam with trick flow street intake, twisted wedges, and a 70mm TB. His car pulls pretty nicely, but his idle quality is poor. When I drove it I kept stalling it backing out of the driveway because I wasn't use to keeping some gas on it. I personally wasn't a big fan of his cam choice for that reason. How's the N-41 in those situations?

only thing i noticed along the lines of what you are talking about is, mine wouldn't idle consistently when i first built the motor. It would idle fine and then start the oh so common surge. well a slight bump of the idle cured my problems all together and i would say it has the drivability of stock, but it sounds mean sitting at an idle.

as a reference here is a very old vid of my stang when i first got the motor back together. Please don't mind the my loud elec fan, the lime green drums, the red cloth hanging out the hatch, the crappy GT rear bumper, the ugly GT taillights, etc, etc it was a good 5 years ago LOL

i was thinking about getting an N-41 but was worried i would have clearance issues with my twisted wedges. you have a stock bottom end?

On Anderson Motorsports website it states at the top of the camshaft column, "Camshafts For Use With Stock 87-95 Pistons
And TFS Twisted Wedge Or Edelbrock Performer Heads
". The N-41 does not require aftermarket or notched pistons.

unfortunatly no dyno numbers but i have ran a 12.2 @ 110 at the track with a horrible 60ft. i think my 60ft was a 2.1 or 2.2 on my wore out Micky ET streets.

No clearance issues at all with stock pistons, TFS twisted wedge and 1.6 rockers.

I've been thinking about putting the N-41 cam in my '91 LX, but I'm torn between that and the TFS Stage 1 as to which will pass emissions. Does the cam affect emissions at all? Thanks for any input.
