@Boosted92LX
just looked deeper into the box and it has a msd boost and timing retard unit?
would i be using that to control the boost?,i thought i had to change the pulley?
sorry guys this in new territory for me now...lol

It's only an inch or two. What's the big deal?

No man, I use megasquirt, but I'm pretty sure what the box does is pull timing back X number of degrees for every pound of boost you put up.. so it gives you a safe spark curve.

ill have to call vortec and find out what there 5-7psi pully is....as for the msd,i had bad luck with a few things from them i hate to say!,ill see what the tuner says about it.

Correct, It is old school way to manually pull timing out. You turn the knob and set the number of degrees you want to pull out. I had one 20 years ago mounted on the shifter housing bezel. The problem with those is the tempation to start playing with the knob. Go to MSD and read the instructions on how many degrees to pull out for # of boost.. Start off safe and you can turn the knob as you read the plugs. Remember you can run with a rich A/F ratio all day long but lean only once.

Personally I would get a tune and not use the knob. Let the tuner dial it in rather than guessing.

oh im getting a tune!,ill install the kit but i dont trust myself with the other stuff no way!... the msd came with the vortec kit,i just didnt know about it...,so im not sure if the tuner would use it or not.

The power is never enough. I finished my 331, minus a tune, about 6 months ago. I am already wishing I had gone 351 based with a built auto. There is never enough HP!

If you calculate your dynamic compression ratio with however much boost your thinking of running then compare to what other ppl boosted are running for dynamic compression that should help give you a good ball park number for how much boost to run.

so i talked to the tuner and he assures me that 5-7 will be safe!...and he says not to put any of the msd,or their regulator on,just bolt the sc on,42lb injectors, and a maf and bring it over!....he will deal with the rest!
wow?...im going to have a supercharged 331?!

Late to the party on this one... 6-8 psi of boost with good gas and conservative timing and you won't have an issue. Some good fuel and a bit more timing and this combo will make 600rwhp all day long... Anyone say dart block?

Fwiw, we ran 38+ psi through my motor non intercooled at 11.5:1 with out incident . Remember the motto, they make new pistons every day do why worry?

haha...no i was worried, and still am for some reason,he double checked and asked me if i had forged pistons and rods, wich i do.....and i run 94 gas,but i asked him a few times to keep it safe...lol...and that i wasnt greedy for power....i really dont want to blow my engine up because this is an afterthought... he told me to leave the 8-9 psi pulley on for now and we can change it if we have too later.
but ya,i guess it should be able to handle 450ishrwhp,at least i hope!...lol

I'm running a 347 with a V3 and charge cooler, it puts 510 to the wheels on 91 and it's a lot fun. Do it!

@8-9# you'll make 450+ easily. I'm really late to this thread but as long as you are relatively conservative with the spark and fuel curves you'll be fine.
