Anyone see mpg increase with catback?

I just wanted to see if anyone got any gas mileage gain from a catback. I am thinking of breaking the bank and getting the magnaflow catback and need more facts to justify the purchase. I am in college and funds are tight, but everytime I talk myself out of getting an exhaust I hear a mustang with one and want one. Thanks for the help.

doubtful...insignificant, if any

think about getting a midpipe first...you'll definitely have more benefit than a catback...

You'll probably be like most of us.. the louder the car is, the more you wanna stay in it to hear it.. so, if it comes to that then it'll go down.. but i'm sure a midpipe would help ur gas mileage if anything..

Thanks for the help guys. I am really just looking for justification in spending the 300 bucks for the magnaflow catback. I am such a tight budget I cringe when I think about spending the money, but it would sound so much better. Oh well, I guess I have a few more weeks to talk myself into it.

cat backs are great and all, but if your budget is tight, just buy a set of magnaflows and have them welded in. Performance gains are nil with a catback and if you do decide to go more for performance down the road you can just buy a set of 2.5" flow tubes and dumps. You know with a stock midpipe maggies arent that loud, sound sweet though and are great for a midpipe since they dont resonate like chambered mufflers or resonators(magnapacks/slps/race bullets)
you can buy the mufflers for 130 shipped off of the corral classifieds and shouldnd pay more than 40-50 bucks to have them welded in(high side)

I would not expect any mesurable gain in milage from exhaust. if you get some great but I would not count on it.

If you want to sound good get an off road mide pipe. cheaper and will proably have more volume with the stock mufflers than a magnaflow catback with stock midepipe. power gain will proably be better too.

I did the catback first then the midepipe. that is the wrong order. more power and sound in the midepipe. the borla mufflers sound better than the stock mufflers but with 2 cats and 2 resonators in the factory midepipe you just did not get much volume out if. so if I did it over agian and could not do both the midepipe comes first.

I very carefully calcuated the Magnaflow cat-back and catted X pipe savings I saw. The result was that I had to drive my car 8 years to break even with the purchase. Roughly 115,000 miles. It is well worth it in terms of performance to spring for both.

BTW: I installed both at the same time.
