I test drove a 06 GT and really liked it but am hesitant to buy it being that I live in Michigan and do not have a garage or covered parking. I wouldn't drive it in the snow, but it would be outdoors year round. I don't like the idea of doing it, what do you guys think?
Drive mine all year as well. Letting it sit in the snow is probably worse than driving & washing it all winter. The Pirelli all-seasons have better traction than I expected--no problem.
I know my car is only a 6 but I've got the 17 inch bullets and the P 0's so I thought I'd contribute.
I am also driving mine all year round and it sits out side. It's snowing right now here in NY and I have never driven a car than felt this stable in the snow; specially a rear wheel drive. Thouroughly impressed with the P Zero Nero Tires.
I live in Maryland (anything but merry! by the way) and drive mine all year and also have no cover to park under. I feel bad for letting my pony sit out but I do cover it! My car cover is great, stays cleaner longer and won't fade! Car handles great as long as you remember that it is a 300HP car on snow, but the most stable high po car I have ever driven in poor weather!
Be smart, buy good tires, and watch the performance mods. Honestly, I'd buy a $300 beater or something. I went out and tried to move mine in the snow. I consider myself a good winter driver. But between the performance mods, and the tires, I had alot of trouble just moving the car. Then again, these tires are made for dry and wet pavement, and have a snow/ice rating of n/a. Good tires and you shouldn't have any problems, 'cept rust. If at all possible, buy a beater. I drove my '03 GT all winter. Didn't have any problems, but I wouldn't do it again.
I too am in the same situation. Mine is out in the driveway now. Have had the same amount of snow as you but I've tried to drive it anytime the roads are clear. Wash it at least once a week. Can't stay out of it. Buy it. You'll be glad you did.
If i was you, I would buy a beater for the winter. A buddy of mine has been parking his 1994 mustang outside for 10 years now, no tarp. And everything seems fine. Ive got a garage myself. I would never drive mine in the winter, with all that road salt. Driving a sports car in the winter just doesn't sound too exciting to me either. I would buy a mustang, but try and find a garage or even those portable garages for peace of mind. good luck
I drive mine all year long. If you can afford it, at LEASTbuy some Real snow tires! The difference between Real snow tires and stock, are Night-n-Day! Buy it and have fun!
Well I am in southern Texas...mine is a vert... and I am able to drive it YEAR round the weather is beautiful and has been 60-75 weather so far this Winter? I put the top down and cruised across town just yesterday...
But I used to live in Maryland and the snow is not too bad there but can be depending on where you are at. I think the biggest issue would be the salt taking a toll on your fenders and under-carriage. Not to mention dings on the front from someone throwing loose rocks from the snow into your ride.
