I will be doing a tune up and was thinking of getting a MSD cap and rotor kit. Are you guys happy with it or should I just get the cheapo brand from the part's store. I will be doing plugs and wires too. is $37 US a good price for the MSD car and rotor.

really, as long as its brass terminals, and not aluminum, you wont really notice a difference. If theres a large difference in price, I wouldnt bother with the more expensive MSD unless you want the look.

I got 15 hp from it too, but I also picked up another 5hp by using dielectric grease on the plug boots. :SNSign:

I knew there wouldn't be a difference just wanted to know if it was a good deal or not and was it worth the extra few $$

For a few extra buck you might as well get MSD quality, not to mention lower resistance wires.

I use a Brass terminal'd cap from the parts store. If the MSD were close in price (I havent a clue), I would do that.

Good luck.

Call a local parts store and see what a brass terminal'd cap goes for - then you know. I think I paid about 12 bucks USD for the parts store version.

I'm not sure how to take that. I am many things, but anything close to a genius is not one of them.

Dielectric grease will hinder conduction, not help. It's used for benefits of keeping water out, etc.

HISSIN50---

So will the brass terminal cap keep the pionts from wearing away so fast?

I ask becuase i've been using the alluminum points cap and the points keep burning/wearing away real fast. I was thinking of picking up the accel brass cap & rotor kit for $20 from the parts store. Think that would solve the problem?

P.s. I'm using an msd 6al and an msd blaster 3 coil.

I cant answer that. It seems to me that on paper, Brass will wear faster than alumimum, so this might not work for you. Aluminum (for me anyhow) gets that nasty pitting and build-up on it - that stuff drives me nuts (it bugs me so I clean the terminals often).

Do you think you burn/wear away the contacts because of a hot spark, or could it be a run-out issue, and the damage is physical (rotor whacking the terminals from excessive dizzy bushing play)?

If I was having problems with alum, I'd try brass just for the sake of experimenting. That's just me.

Good luck.

What did you do, sit on it? I've had my MSD cap and rotor (came with MSD distributor) for 3 years and still looks brand new.
