anyone Using Redline Motor Oil?

I can get redline 5w-20 or 5W-30 locally for $8 quart or Mobile 1 5W-30 for $4 quart. What would be better for engine condition, M1 at 5,000 mile intervals or Redline at 10,000 intervals w/ filter change at 5k(claims it is good for 15-20k). I heard redline has a superior addative package and would provide better stability even with extended drain intervals.
Driven moderately hard :)

Im probably gonna start using the redline and changing it every 3000 miles .
 
Redline is a good oil but at double the price of Mobile 1 its not worth it. As far as additives go..Its possible they might have something slightly superior but for a street/track car Mobile 1 will do just fine. When running a full synthetic such as the ones mentioned it is true you don't need to change it near as often as with mineral oils. I run Mobile 1 in my daily driver for 8000. I work at a chemical plant that makes lubricants and have had it broke down to check for acid number and oxidation with still acceptable levels. Save your money.
 
you guys might want to consider Amsoil. It has the best ratings I personally have seen in tests, and is a little cheaper than redline. Shipped I got 6 quarts of Amsoil Synthetic 5w-20 (7,500 mile interval) for 40 bucks from their website.

I've really been considering amsoil. I'm using Mobil 1 with Mobil oil filter. Do you think I should switch to Amsoil or is it not worth it? Sorry, dont mean to hijack thread, just curious about how good Amsoil is compared to Mobil 1.

The main reason I am doing the switch is that you can run it a little longer before teh change with mobile 1 (according to the advertising at least).. and everytime i go into the oil change place this guy there tells me i should find a 5w-20 synthetic like amsoil. There is a lot more technology into a synthetic 5w-20 than 5w-30 for it to hold the viscosity at high temps he was saying. Gas mileage and performance will be better. Probably not that noticeable, but we'll see, cuz the amsoil is still sitting under my bed.

Despite what oil I use, I'll be changing it regularly. Namely, cause I still have a warranty. Thanks for the input.

Yeah, I have been changing the mobile 1 between 4,500 and 5,000 miles. I'll probably leave the Amsoil in for 6,000. Mobile 1 is still rated well against the other oils out there, just that they don't make a 5w-20 synthetic which provides a little less friction and a little better gas mileage. If you are in really hot weather I'd stick with 5w-30, but I'm in california where there aren't extremes of hot or cold too much.

I've been using 0w-20 so far. I think I'll upgrade to 0w-30. If I'm not mistaken, thats what Bill Putnam is using.

really, I have read otherwise. I heard AMSOIL is just designer label Mobile1 type product, with the same oil base technology. I heard it is a tad better than mobile1 but nothing amazing.
Supposedly, redline uses a different mrthod to make the oil base or something like that? not really sure but I read something along those lines.

also, mobile1 just came out with mobile1R (yeah, really is type R oil) that is supposed to compete with redline at $7-8 a quart

lol, basically I want to spend $80 per 10K either 1 fill up with redline or two fillups with M1, which is going to be the best?

Can't wait to see that new Mobil1 R line.
 
The head chemist at my plant used to work for the man(Lefty Ward) that came up with the amsoil formulations. It is deff. good, no doubt about it but at considerably higher cost. I don't think it worth the extra expense for street car. As far as runnin a 0w weight oil...unless your in below 0 degrees conditions all the time its not ness. 5w is ideal for a street car.
