anyone wired up a new starter to old wiring?

I recently put a CHP roller 347 to me AOD and i'm having a few problems trying to turn over the 11:1 compression ratio... for some reason the old stock 67 starter isn't able to turn it over once its warmed up and the rings are sealed i want to put a newer style (90's)starter with the (clyenoid ?) on it - does anyone have a wiring chart on how to do this... is is this more simple then i'm making it out to be.

Have to run your batt cable from batt to your starter. Then the wire on the left on the soleniod to the soleniod on the starter. But you get to move a bunch of junk around to power your car

I did it a few years back. I read an article on Ford Muscle that really helped me out with the wiring. Check this out.

Not sure your plans but i have read a few people that eliminated the stock solenoid and used the one on the starter. Can't help with the wiring cause i haven't done it YET, but i'm sure someone may chime in on that.

how much better are the stock 90's style then the 67 starters?

wonder if i can get by just doing that?

Newer technology is usually better And i am sure you can get a 90's starter to bolt up and work proprerly, you might have to shim it. As for wiring just the main cable from the bat. and a 12 volt switched source to activate the solenoid.

Just to be clear you are talking about a gear reduction starter correct? Without having either a gear reduction or a high power starter anything might have a hardtime cranking the engine over.

OK, I looked over the Ford-Muscle article briefly. If you are installing a newer late model starter what is the point of keeping the fender mounted solenoid? The late model starter has a solenoid integrated onto the starter itself.
