Anyone with factory MP3 players come in -

What I was trying to ask before my keyboard went nuts was if anyone has burned CD-R's in MP3 format to play on their factory stereo. I burned a CD-R w/ +160 songs on it for my friend, and he said it didn't work. It said loading, and would never start playing. I burned the CD-R as data (isn't that the same as MP3 ?). It works on my computers, but could I have done it wrong ? How do I make it work right ?

A disk burned in mp3 format can only be played on a player that can read mp3 format cds. Most cd players can read cd-r disks but only burned in wav format. If you want to burn music you need to convert mp3 to wav first with a burning program like Nero or something. You will not be able to fit as many songs on it because wav takes up more space than mp3. There are many aftermarket company that make mp3 cd players now.

He asked about factory MP3 player though. It should play CD-R's because well, how else are you going to play MP3's.

Uh, the factory CD player plays MP3's. My father's Ranger plays them too. I haven't tried it yet because with the weather we've had my car rarely leaves the garage. My dad had my brother put a few CD's on one disk. I think he used Nero if that matters.

Not in a 2000. In 02 only the V6 had the option for the MachMp3 Player.. the modern ones play mp3's.. That was my only gripe with the 460.. no mp3 play back. Drives me nuts.

Thanks - that's what I needed to hear.
Wonder why his is not working ? Are there any settings, or something, or should it just start playing like a normal CD ?

Some may have missed in my original post the CD w/ MP3's was made for my friend. He has a 02 V6 Stang w/ a factory MP3 player.

Nothing special to do. If I remember correctly (been in storage since October) when you put the disc in it says loading and takes a little longer than a regular CD but it just starts playing. If I remember I'll check it out when I get home from work tonight and make sure.

Did you "close the session" of the CD? I don't know how picky the deck is, but it might only play CD's that have been closed. I think this is also called "finalizing" the CD. An "open" CD will let you burn more data to it at a later date, but a "closed" CD will not.

Just a thought.

hmmmm. Good point. I'm pretty sure I made it to where no further data could be added to the CD just in case. Not positive though -

Does it have to say MP3 on the front of the radio for it to play MP3s?????

I have an 03 Mach1 w/ mach 460

As far as I remember, Mach does NOT play MP3. I don't know why. It's retarded.

The Ford MP3 CD deck doesn't play RW's? The Mach plays audio CD-RW's fine.
Ford is so weird.

I just checked mine. I put in the CD, the display reads
"CD" for a few seconds, then says "loading" with a little "mp3" next to it, then starts playing. It was with an open CD using Nero 5.5 to burn with three directories on it.

If not anything else, you might want to try burning it slower. I've actually had to take a head unit and turn up the voltage to the laser a little so it would read burned cd's at all. Otherwise it was just a little too weak to read them. Like I said though, you might want to try burning the cd slower and see if that helps.

Thanks. For whoever asked I know his CD player says MP3 on it in bold letters. I can't imagine his wont play RW, but who knows. Jon Jon is right. Ford is weird. And I laughed at my friend w/ a new C5 Vette that couldn't play a RW -
