So I finally have to work on the AOD in my 90 Hatch. 170,000 miles and still driving isn't bad for the original trans, is it? It is getting old not having O/D in these days of $3.00 a gallon gas and first does not always engage when you want it to (you know....pulling out of my driveway, quick jump across an intersection, etc.) I want to leave the car AOD for ease of maintenance and because I commute in it and traffic sucks. I think that I am going to get another used tranny to tide me over until I can get the right one purchased. I am down to three options:
1. Lentech
2. Performance Automatics
3. Rebuild myself
I do not drag race (other than stoplight to stoplight) and mostof my miles are freeway. I do like to take it up to the mountains and hope someday to run the Silver State Classic. The car is rough enough that I would also like to start doing track days a couple times a year. No matter which trans I get, I will be using the flex-a-lite tranny cooler with electric fan and am installing the flex-a-lite electric fan for the radiator today.
From what I can tell, Lentech seems to be more expensive but may be a bit stronger. PA looks to be more value priced but they are not the ones getting written up in the magazines. I am reasonably machanically inclined on the rebuild, bought the video and it does not look that bad.
Thanks for your opinions.
