AOD maintenence questions: 1. Amsoil ? 2. adjust bands? 3. complete system flush?

Hello all,

I have some questions about maintenence on an 87 AOD:

1. Can I run Amsoil ATF in it? will I notice any improvement?


2. Do I need to have the bands or anything else adjusted with the pan off?
(Tranny chains say they like to do this but I have no idea what this means or if it is necessary. I have zero transmission knowledge.

3. If I do run the Amsoil, is there a "best way" to completely flush the transmission and all the related lines?

You can run the amsoil for you aod.Just call them and ask what they think.It should shift smoother and you will not have to change every 30,000 like you are supposed to but its nice to.The only way to totaly flush the trany clean is to go to penzoil quick lube or the like and pay like 80 bucs for a trany fluid change.They use a cool machine that hooks to your two trany lines and you run the car and it replaces fresh fuid and removes the return dirty til it get to be clean fuid coming out the trany line.The only thing is they don't change the trany filter just flush it.
